About this listen

Juan Cabrillo and the crew of the covert combat ship Oregon have barely escaped a mission on the Congo River when they intercept a mayday from a defenseless boat under fire off the African coast. Cabrillo takes action, saving the beautiful Sloane Macintyre - who's looking for a long-submerged ship that may hold a fortune in diamonds. But what surprises Cabrillo is her story about a crazy fisherman who claims to have been attacked on the open sea by giant metal snakes in the same area.

What begins as a snake hunt leads Cabrillo onto the trail of a far more lethal quarry - a deranged militant and his followers who plan to unleash the devastating power of nature itself against all who oppose them.

Let's face it. We don't read Clive Cussler because we are expecting something new and different. We know we'll get a good, fun, improbable, pretty long piece of entertainment. Cussler never fails to deliver the goods. Every story will have The Hero in some impossible situation and he will be saved by Deus Ex Machina, sometimes in the form of the author, depending on which series one is reading. This one is no exception. I am rather fonder of the Dirk Pitt books than this series, probably because Dirk has flashing green eyes, but hey, it's still good fun, even if I can't remember anything about the book's plot half an hour after I finish reading. And I really enjoy learning stuff about the oceans and their ecology. Any book from which I can take knowledge is not time wasted.

Dependably entertaining, if not terribly original

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

From the first few words to final parting, I was hooked and guessing on the outcome and how each part will work together to make a final book. Great. You won't do wrong by starting this book...

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I listened to this book with head phones on the couch, I think all of my family thought I was crazy. I could not move.

I lost a friend when I completed this story.

What made the experience of listening to Skeleton Coast the most enjoyable?

The intrigue and how all of the sub plots and bad guys get tied together. I like the good guys flexible moral approach to dealing with the villains.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Cabrillo has to be a favorite since he is the brain child to the Oregon. I loved the way Sloane was brought in as a no nonsense but tough character. she eventually softens as she finds out more about Juan and realizes she can't have what she wants.

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Scott is good at telling the story. He allows your mind to wander to other possibilities as he leads you through the story.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I didn't cry but there always seems to be sections of the stories that Clive puts in to lighten the mood and Scott makes you laugh at them.

Any additional comments?

Read this book and you will be hooked on Oregon.

this was another great story that I just could not stop listening too. I was so captivated, I found myself taking longer routes home to keep listening to it.

totally worth it

This book was very good and had interesting and suprising events. The ideas were not easy to predict and though unusual, were somehow believable. My husband felt the book "drug" toward the end, bur I enjoyed it all.

Good series but like this one can be read as a stand alone. Sometimes technical information can get confusing so I just "page back".

Good Story and Excellent Narrator

I enjoy that these are always neatly wrapped up, well paced, and for the most part superbly narrated. I already have the next one queued up and am looking forward to our intrepid heroes' next adventure.

Neat and sweet

I have only just started reading Clive Cussler. Tumbled onto him by accident.... I always thought he wrote stuff like Louis L'Amour -- boy, was I wrong. I have THOUROUGHLY enjoyed this series (Juan Cabrillo) and can't get enough now.

Terrific, interesting, fast-paced, great characters - just wonderful. Of course, Scott Brick brings the characters to life so well....
