Campfire stories

This would be great campfire stories. No one will be sleeping. The story about the abandoned refrigerator with the thing with many mouths and teeth, the scarecrow come to life to take its maker, the children in the woods turning into trees and firewood. The narrator did a wonderful job some of the voices were unbelievably awesome. I received this free for an honest review from the author or narrator.

A Spooky Collection of Short Stories

Skeleton in the Closet was such an awesome listen. The stories were scary but not too scary. They were exciting and thrilling. I can't wait until my grandkids get to listen to this audiobook. They'll love it. I think 11-13 is a perfect age group for this audio. The length is good too.

Gene Blake's narration was amazing. I was extremely entertained by his vocal performance. His character voices were SO good. He was incredibly good. I'd definitely recommend this audiobook.

a SHORT story collection for YA audiences

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Overall, I enjoyed the experience, as short as it was. I know it is a collection of short stories, but the whole thing is only 2 hours and 47 minutes long. I wouldn't have spent a credit on it, myself. That being said, the stories were pretty good and the narrator is good. I do think the intended audience is more in the YA range, rather than true horror fans but it's not young enough that I didn't enjoy it.

Chilling! Treat Yourself to an Early Halloween 👻

What made the experience of listening to Skeleton in the Closet and Other Scary Stories the most enjoyable?

The original stories with unexpected endings made these a treat. The narrator was the trick!

What does Gene Blake bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His imagination and skill at writing short stories that was "ick!" Did make my skin crawl... similar to the worms mentioned! (And not only during that story.)

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

*shivers* Several made me wanna shower ... with the curtains open!

Any additional comments?

The stories and storytelling are top notch! I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who wants creepy shorts!

Suprising Twists and Turns! Great book!

What about Gene Blake’s performance did you like?

The dark and strong narration for the subject of this book made for a colorful listening experience.

Fun for teens

I enjoyed this book and most of the stories are good, but might be more enjoyed by teens. Maybe that is who the stories were intended for. The reader was great and added just the right amount of drama.

Gareth

It was an awesome book! I mean, awesome! The narator was great with his voices, which made the experience of the book more unsetteling as was suposed to ;. I'm definantly giving this a 5 star review!

A Halloween Treat for our Family

Gene Blake, with his un-oiled door hinge growl of a voice, was the perfect narrator for this short collection of scary stories for children. The first (burnt) offering, Skeleton in the Closet, is still spoken of in whispers at our house, weeks after Halloween has passed. For some reason, quality 'scary stories' for kids are hard to find, so I would recommend adding this one to your library, even if you are a very old, very big kid.

Bob (And her Pugglepires) @ Platypire Reviews

I requested and was granted a code for the Audible version of this book.
Before I start this, I should make it known that my kids helped with the reviewing. As it IS for kids, I had them listen to it with me, as I do all kids’ books. Makes sense, right? I’ve been harassed over this before, but honestly, I’d rather see how a kid felt about a book meant for him/her before buying. So that’s how I review. They liked this one, by the way. A lot.

This was good! My kids and I all thoroughly enjoyed it. They thought it was fun, and asked if we could listen to the stories again later when we could have a campfire. Obviously, I agreed. If we skip the last one. Friggin’ clowns, man. Why’d it have to be friggin’ clowns?? Each story was unique and well written, and a few made me think of Goosebumps; they would have fit nicely with those! My kids loved each story, but the 10-year-old was particularly taken with the one in the bath tub, I can’t remember its name, though. He really liked that one. The older one liked them all, but has an affinity for scarecrow stories, and he was rather pleased when we found a story about that. I like the first one, best. Don’t lie to your folks, kids! Bad things happen! LOL Anyway, we give the book rating of 4 to 5, the majority saying 5.

The narrator did a great job! His voice got suitably creepy when the story called for it, and his voicing of the creatures was amazing, he really brought them to life. His clown voice was good, too. Too good. I won’t be sleeping well. Friggin’ clowns… ANYWAY! He had a good tone and tempo, and he may have been the perfect person for this particular book. We rate him at 5 stars, as well.

Overall, Bob and the Pugglepires give this 5 Platypires!

Campfire Stories for Kids

This is a short collection of not-too-scary campfire stories for the younger audiobook listener. Great for a long car trip or other travel around Halloween. Many of the stories have a lesson to them that kids can learn from as well.

The narrator was good, but there were a few voices I didn't like. Overall good performance.

I requested and received a free copy of this audiobook from the author, publisher, or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review. I was NOT required to write a positive review and this reflects my honest opinion of the work.
