About this listen

The recently orphaned Sisters Grimm find out from their Granny, who they thought was dead, that they're descendents of the legendary Brothers Grimm. Now they must take over the family responsibility of being fairy tale detectives in a town where fairy tales are real. Their first case: a giant is destroying the town and it may have something to do with a boy named Jack and a certain famous beanstalk.©2005 Michael Buckley (P)2005 Recorded Books, LLC Feel-Good Funny Witty Fantasy Teen Detective

A bit too cute

I enjoyed this book but it's a one-liner carried a bit too far. I did, however, enjoy it enough that I might listen to the next in the series. My library has it for me to borrow. Would I buy it? Maybe not.

Great for road trips.

loved it. Great for kids and grownups with hardened arteries and dog lovers. Start of a series that should be fun.

Young adult, emphasis on young

Entertaining, light story with plot points appropriate to preteens. The most interesting characteristic of the sisters from an adult perspective was how they each characterized a different, classic child's reaction to the foster system. Where Sabrina is oppositional and defiant, Daphne is accepting to a fault, creating as many attachments as Sabrina tries to sever. Fascinating, but the performance leads it to feel caricatured. Or maybe I'm too old to feel a connection to wise-acre kids.

Fun listen!

Although this is more for preteen/teens, I still enjoyed listening to this with my granddaughters! It was fun to put together all of the old fairy tales and discuss it with the girls. We had a lot of fun talking and enjoying this book.
