About this listen

Critically acclaimed, praised by therapists, parents, and patients. This short, powerful depiction of life with an emotionally traumatized daughter should be required listening for anyone involved in adoption, parenting difficult children, or healing wounded hearts. The true story of Ani’s struggle with Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) will inspire listeners long after the book is done. From her days in an orphanage through adoption and attempted homicide, to her struggles in therapy and first steps toward healing, Ani's journey will forever change the way you see childhood trauma and what it means to parent with love. Told in simple prose, listeners will find understanding and hope in Small.

This is a sad tale of a mother who just wants to love her daughter, even though her daughter suffers from RAD and some other psychiatric disorders. This book does offer hope for families with similar struggles, while showing them that they are not alone.

Sad but meaningful

My feelings about day care are confirmed. We wonder why we have so many angry children. They aren’t bonding with a primary caregiver…but with several others…some good, some not so good. I like that this woman is so wanting to get word out about RAD. People don’t know or understand how prevalent this disorder is.

The truth about detached children

I wish there had been follow up details about how Ani ended up as she got older.
