FROM THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR

Thrown Away Child
is a memoir covering Louise Allen’s abusive childhood in a foster home, how she survived - using her love of art as a sanctuary - and how she hopes to right old wrongs now by fostering children herself and campaigning for the improvement of foster care services. It is a compelling and inspirational story. This book gives a voice to the many children who grew up unhappily in care.

Excellent!

This book made me cry. This child went through terrible, horrible treatment. I can’t even imagine how someone can treat a child like this.

Amazing book

It astounds me how a child knew from a young age that she was being abused and miss treated and was able to find her way in the world and make her life so much better.

Touching

As a child who lived in foster care, although only for a short time, this book spoke to me. My foster parents were nothing like Louise's though. I can't imagine the horrors she went through. It was nice to hear in the end regardless of all she went through that she survived and it seems thrived.

Heartbreaking truths

As a foster caregiver my heart breaks for so many children feeling lost and unwanted. The system is so broken and misdirected. Nothing but love and nurturing to our little blessings.

She had my attention from the beginning

I am so sorry things like this happen to children. This book is an eye opening book about how bad a child’s life can be. I wish I could scoop up every single unwanted, abandoned and abused child and love them and take care of them.

Could have been my story…

Great story. A lot of the abuse she endured was the same in my childhood. It was almost like listening to my own childhood at times but I lived with my biological family and was finally rescued by my foster family.
