About this listen

With help from her friends - the irascible gray cat Pewter, the wise corgi Tee Tucker, and Tally, the exuberant Jack Russell - Sneaky crisscrosses her home state of Virginia hoping to go where no cat since Socks Clinton has gone: 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. In the tradition of her heroine, Sojourner Truth, she takes her case to the masses. Journeying from the lair of the red-shouldered hawk to the nest of the tufted titmouse, from a pasture full of curmudgeonly cows to the stately halls of Monticello, the tenacious tiger cat even secures the chattering support of Thomas Jefferson’s mice. Mice backing a cat for president? Yes, we can!

Now, if Sneaky can get the animal community to band together for the common good, why not the humans? After all, who better to get the economy purring again than an honest tabby with authentic political stripes? Human candidates have had their chance in Washington, with dubious results of late: Nowhere does it say in the Constitution that the president cannot be a cat.

What would have made Sneaky Pie for President better?

The blurb indicated it was a Mrs Murphy story, it is not. I would never have purchased this had I known that up front. I love Mrs Murphy and the interaction between the animals and humans. This is the worst Rita Mae Brown book I have read, and I have read most of her fiction works including Venus Envy.

Would you ever listen to anything by Rita Mae Brown again?

yes.

What does Kate Forbes bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Kate Forbes always does a good job on the Rita Mae Brown books she reads

Not a Mrs. Murphy Book

Would you try another book from Rita Mae Brown and/or Kate Forbes?

Yes

What was most disappointing about Rita Mae Brown’s story?

It was not a Mrs Murphy mystery! I bought it to have the complete series. It was more a rant about politics.

What three words best describe Kate Forbes’s performance?

Clear diction

Sorry I bought it.

She should have kept "Sneaky Pie" out of this story series. Doesn't work. My dad is listening to the series, but turned this one off and asked for the next book.

Not up to her usual standards

Sneaky Pie replaces Mrs Murphy and a Jack Russel is added to the membership. Sneaky Pie has decided to run for President and visits farms and wilderness to scout for other animal support for her campaign! Definitely a great many different and amusing points of view are expressed. Quirky and amusing!

An unusual Mrs Murphy; without Mrs Murphy!

Any additional comments?

Nowhere in the description does it tell you there is not story here - just the standard left wing script of whines and complaints told by the animals. I love the Crozet series but this is enough to turn me off from the books forever.

don't waste your money

Not a murphy. Mystery. It is a cute little story, but it is not a Miss Murphy mystery.

Not a mystery

I did my best to try and pay attention the first chapter thinking if had to get better. I fast forwarded through the next few chapters hoping to find a story, never materialized. I'm moving on to the next book in the series and hoping this was just a fluke. it didn't occur to me to read reviews, I love this series, now I have doubts about the upcoming ones, too bad.

Not a mystery, like the other in the series

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Someone looking for political commentary, not a mystery.

Would you ever listen to anything by Rita Mae Brown again?

Yes, but not in this genre.

How could the performance have been better?

Never finished it.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment and a bit of anger that this was billed as a Sneaky Pie mystery. I kept listening for the story line--there is none, just commentary by the usual Sneaky Pie characters. Not at all what I was looking for.

This is a political commentary.

Kate Forbes can't save this one. I usually can persevere through an audiobook -- but on this one I'm bailing, while holding the white flag over my mouth & nose.

Awful -- don't waste a credit on this

Great story. First one without Harry in the story but what a story. To think if all our animals actually communicate like humans our world would be better for it. Loved the story.
