About this listen

In this foreboding journey into the depths of friendship, three women spend a trip together covering up the secrets between them—but when one lie unravels, there’s no going back.

Jocelyn is ready to get married—and more ready to have fun. She plans a bachelorette trip to North Wales, where she can forget about her strained relationship and focus on the tension among friends instead. It’s a welcome distraction.

Her friend Rowan used to be the wild child. But after having a kid of her own and losing the father in a tragic accident, she’s now the ever-responsible single mother, cautious in every way. Except one.

Cadence doesn’t want to be there. For as long as she’s known her friends, she’s always felt disparate. Maybe it’s because those two share a special bond: Jocelyn’s brother was Rowan’s boyfriend, and they still feel his loss. Or maybe it’s because Cadence has secrets they can never know.

As the trip goes on, their friendship begins to crack under the pressure of all the things they leave unsaid…but those might be the only things that can save them.

I have Welsh friends and the attempted Welsh accent was so far off the mark that I almost didn't listen to the book.

This book started off incredibly slow in my opinion. I almost DNF’d it, then I thought I was going to give it one star and then it got pretty good with some twists and turns I didn’t see coming. For a “free” audiobook included in Audible Premium it’s worth a listen

There was literally not one likable character in this novel. Each is more horrific than the next. I feel so sorry for the little girl, Molly.

The story is suspenseful and has some interesting twists and turns - but there were a couple loose ends and by then end there were literally no characters to root for - they are each inexorably flawed. It’s hard to comprehend why they were friends and why they were still in touch.

The most despicable characters

SO I LIED, Chelsea Ichaso’s first adult thriller is a twisted tale of lies and deception between three long time best friends visiting Wales for a girl’s week.

Cadence has never lived up to the potential she thought she had. Single mother Rowan never got over the loss of her daughter’s father who was Jocelyn’s twin. Jocelyn has lived off her father’s money.

Not one of these three woman has an ounce of integrity. Unlikable to the highest degree, they will stop at nothing to avenge perceived wrongs. Each has stabbed her two friends in the back in ways they can never get back.

Cadence, Jocelyn and Rowan has no business calling each other friends. Frenemies is the kindest word I can use to describe the trio.

I couldn’t stop listening to the audiobook, but I also liked the book less and less the further I I got into story. I doubt I’ll re-listen to SO I LIED although it entertained me a lot.

So many lies

A gripping tale of betrayal and deceit, this novel follows three friends who discover just how far they’re willing to go to protect their secrets. The story begins with the trio setting off on a bachelorette trip abroad, only to be harassed and st@lk3d by a fellow hotel guest. As the tension builds, questions arise… what have they done to provoke such attention, and how does it end with one of them d3@d? The characters are flawed and relatable, yet also deeply frustrating. Despite wanting to root for them, I couldn’t help but feel that “Karma’s a b***h” as the story unfolded. Ichaso expertly explores the idea that while everyone has secrets, those hidden sins, especially when they come at the expense of others, can lead to devastating consequences.

Lots to twists and turns. Really good, even though the characters are not likable. Great writing, didn't want to stop listening.

I borrowed this from Kindle Unlimited and listed to the Audible recording. I had not read up on the author, so that’s on me. I spent the whole time thinking the characters were adolescent and the reasons for their actions lazy on the author’s part - like it was a 9th grade writing assignment. Made more sense when I learned this was her 1st departure from her young adult novels. The “twists” were difficult to buy into when the motivation for murder was offered up as a stolen coat or trampled flower bed. The characters became more difficult to follow and keep track of when the narrator’s accents seemed to come and go, but rarely actually sounded correct for the character’s country of origin. Leave this author to her teen books.

Convoluted & adolescent with inconsistent narration

This story was a fun easy listen but the plot was original & kept you guessing until last hour.

I've read all of Ichaso's books up to this point, and I was excited to check out her first adult thriller book! She maintains the same fast pace, compelling narrative, and twists and surprises as her previous books, while taking the maturity, themes, and conflicts to the next level! I love the way we interweaves timelines to keep you guessing as to who has died and who has survived. Great twists. Engaging conflicts that keep you "turning the page" (or listening in) until you reach the final resolution! Can't wait for her next one!
