Publisher's summary

What would you do if you met someone you thought just might be one of Jesus' original disciples still living in the 21st century? That's Jake's dilemma as he meets a man who talks of Jesus as if he had known him, and whose way of living challenges everything Jake had previously known.

So You Don't Want to Go To Church Anymore is Jake's compelling journal that chronicles 13 conversations with his newfound friend over a four-year period and how those exchanges turn Jake's world upside-down. With his help, Jake faces his darkest fears, struggles through brutal circumstances and comes out on the other side in the joy and freedom he always dreamed was possible.

Must read!

This book provides a unique opportunity to consider the modern day church from a 1st century perspective. It challenges the core of our relationship with Jesus and others, and whether we really find life in Him. What you find will change you and others.

You will listen several times or dismiss it...

What did you love best about So You Don't Want to Go to Church Anymore?

I was captivated. As simple as that. I had an immediate connection and felt as if I were taking the journey right along side the author. Made me go,

What about Wayne Jacobsen’s performance did you like?

Lively, animated, believable. Easy to listen to, at least on my ears.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

An unexpected motivation to read through the books of John, with anticipation of a new sense of who John really was (is?)

5 Stars, but I'm not 100% sure the Book title fits

Would you listen to So You Don't Want to Go to Church Anymore again? Why?

I think this is a book that you have to read cover to cover in order to really "get" the message. It's really a story/journey, and it takes a while to build. If you just read the cover/title, it sounds like it's a book speaking out against going to church. If you read the first few chapters, it sounds like a frustrated guy that got burned by his church, and burned out in the process. The real takeaway, though, is much more positive than that. It's about not letting what we call "church" become a surrogate for developing a personal, interactive, trust-relationship with God - rather than feeding off of the approval of other people. I like the metaphor of the geese flying south at the end. I'm definitely going to read the follow-on books ...

Who was the most memorable character of So You Don't Want to Go to Church Anymore and why?

John ... although I found it weird that he never really had a last name, and didn't have an e-mail address or cell phone. :-)

Any additional comments?

One of the subliminal points of the book involved timing. It often takes time for things to work out ... God's not a genie in a bottle granting wishes on our timetable. We need to be patient and trust Him to work things out. He's always at work - even when we can't see it.

I'm not just handing out 5 stars

I would highly recommend this book. There are many profound truths simply stated. This is a very refreshing way to considered some of the things Believers of been taught as true. I highly recommend this book!

THANKFUL

This is truly wonderful and insightful. Specially if the reader/listener is interested in walking with God and not so interested in fixing systems. Answers excellent questions with direction into God and not into the 'fix'. I found it very good, and have recommended it and given it as gifts. I thank God and the authors for a timely sound.
