Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Firoozeh Dumas is used to making people laugh, but in 2022, she found herself drowning in tears of sadness. After her 2022 Los Angeles Times article "What I needed was a rest break on the Island of Grieving and Useless Folks" went viral, she was inspired to write Sob, a one-hour audio story about grief, healing, and miracles that will leave you spellbound.

In this unflinching story, Firoozeh Dumas, author of the international best seller Funny in Farsi, takes you into the worst year of her life, which she describes as “a bouillon cube of grief”. After the unexpected break up of her longtime marriage in 2022, Firoozeh finds herself in completely new territory, untethered from the only life she knew as an adult. Using her signature wit, she recounts her highly personal journey through this uncharted and unplanned chapter in her life. Hers is a journey she would have never chosen, but one that ultimately leads her to a deeper truth about herself, to a better place where hope and grace are a daily part of life and where serendipity is always around the corner. Firoozeh’s story will leave you crying, laughing, and pondering some of life’s big questions.

Honest and touching, heartbreaking and inspiring, Firoozeh’s story will resonate with anyone who has found themselves in the dark night of the soul and wondered if there is a way out. You will immediately want to discuss Sob with your friends. It is an experience meant to be shared.

Light after dark

I enjoyed listening to sob.
It reminded me of the time when I could not stop sobbing.
For me the time was the healer .

Healing

This story was like diving headfirst into a whirlwind of emotions. The author's raw, unfiltered portrayal of her experiences left me breathless, moved, and utterly captivated. Through her beautiful and vulnerable narrative, I found myself deeply moved, contemplating the profound lessons of faith and prayer. Thank you.

Masterfull

This story made me laugh and cry at the same time. Firoozeh infuses humor at one of the most difficult periods of her life. I really wanted the story to continue and hoping she could publish another story or book soon.

The Humanity if Grief

Loved the humanization of grief and grieving with all of its ugliness and beauty. Loved the mother-daughter relationship that was the anchor of the story as well as the sources of strength. Such an empowering reflection.

What grief gives us

I laid down for a nap today and instead listened to this wonderful, short book. It was just what I needed as I’m going through a difficult time and Firoozeh reminded me that the path, while rocky sometimes, is guided by the unseen.

Heartfelt and moving

Although I have not experienced grief myself but I almost could feel what she went through, I listened to this book once with my mom and once with my husband, we all loved it.

Finding the love and hope in ourselves and the world.

My daughter and I read, “It ain’t so awful, falafel” together last summer. It was a funny, sweet, coming-of-age story that also talked about serious topics in a heart-warming way. I have been a fan ever since! This book is a hopeful heart-wrencher. Thank you for wearing your heart on your sleeve, and sharing your love and stories with us all, Firoozeh Dumas.
