About this listen

Jay Cantrell will find his family…or die trying.

He had the perfect life as a small-town librarian: married just over a year to his second wife, an airline pilot, he also has a daughter in college studying to be an astrophysicist. He's ready to celebrate the first year of his new marriage as he adjusts to an empty nest and a new stage in life.

But the sun had other plans and sent a coronal mass ejection as an anniversary present.

Awakened before dawn one morning in mid-December by northern lights that blanket the sky - in central Illinois - Jay's world changes in the blink of an eye. Flying a planeload of passengers to Hawaii, his wife Kate experiences the CME in a whole other light and must fight to stay alive every step of the way. Leah, Jay's daughter, witnesses the impact through the eyes of a student far from home.

Jay must decide to stay and wait for news of his wife or leave before things get worse to find his daughter. The problem is, with no electricity, he doesn't know how bad it is...anywhere. Will he set out to rescue his daughter and make a harrowing journey through a post-apocalyptic wasteland only to find the power is still on, two states away?

In a world where electricity is a thing of the past, can there be any hope for the future? After all, it's not a matter of if a CME will strike the earth, but when.

I enjoyed this story very much

This was a good listen, Seems believable. Not everyone is a Seal; some of us are just city folks. That is what Cantral is, I could see myself there,

Just cant Get Past the Narrator

I really tried and I know I would like the story but I just cant get past the narration. He grated on my nerves - very rough and at sometimes short. I know they are reading the book but I don't want to be "read" to. I want a narration and the narrator to be vested in the characters.. I don't like the main character. He is just unrealistic and I don't care what happens to him. Makes librarians look bad. He seems to be in perpetual denial and a baby. I am not rooting for him.
Will not get any more books from this narrator. Like I said - maybe good for children's' books just not for me. Disappointed.

Cliff hanger warning!

This is no story for children. It is all one big adult issue, and there is a plethora of violence. Also language and sexual talk as well as threatened rape.
The story was well written, and I liked the range of characters. I also really appreciated that people felt something after being forced to defend themselves.
But I really hate when a book sets up one big goal through the whole story and then ends just when it looks like the goal is within reach. This book does exactly that. Very unsatisfying. So if you’re thinking about buying it be sure to include the price of at least one more book in the series.

Story is Enjoyable - Narrator Exhausts Me

I enjoyed the story. Not much unique, some of it cliche, but still very enjoyable and I'll probably listen to the next book.
But I need to take a break from the narrator first. He actually could be pretty good if he didn't narrate as if everyone were shouting or saying everything with high emotion. There is no "normal" conversation. It's exhausting.

What is wrong with the narrator??????

The narrator sounded like an Italian all the extra aaaa sounds. Really ruined listening to it. I thought it was one kind or word - mostly those that end in ed - but it is not.
The main character is stupid. HOW FREAKING STUPID can you make this guy. What an idiot. He does every stupid thing you've ever seen anyone do.
The two best characters are the daughter Leah, and her friend Tom.
I'm not going to listen to any more from this narrator and I'm not interested in reading any more of this series. I love this kind of story and this one could have been really good.

Eye opening, incredible read

Marcus has put into words what the entire planet knows but is too complacent to forge forward and resolve. This reliance on electricity and electronics is, what I would “sleeping destruction” for the majority of the planet. I encourage readers to share this series w family, friends & loved ones. I would also encourage readers to put a preparedness plan in place for such an event….as well all know, at some point, it is Inevitable.

Cliffhanger

Solar Storm, Book 1
: Marcus Richardson

"In a world where electricity is a thing of the past, can there be any hope for the future? After all, it's not a matter of if a CME will strike the earth, but when."

This is book 1 in the Solar Storm series. It is well written, and held me entranced from beginning to end. There were a wide range of characters with different personalities, that evolve into people they most likely wouldn't of become if it weren't for the event. The New Normal wouldn't have happened.

This is an adult novel, with mature situations. I would not recommend for anyone younger than upper teens.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed by James Romick.
