About this listen

pulls heart strings

This has been one of the best books I've ever heard. So genuine, sheds light on what migrants go through, and pulled so many heart strings.

It was hard not to break down in tears as I listened to this book. Javier narrates in a way that you feel like you are living the experince with him. It tugs at your soul. The difficult journey through the eyes of a 9 year old boy. Many times I laughed about his occurrences and many times I cried. Beautiful work!

Can Melt Any Heart

I was a young child, almost four, when I made the journey to the US with my mother. Although I can remember very early memories of the US, I seem to have blocked out all details of our journey from Mexico City. Listening to Javier’s journey made me wonder about my own as well as imagine what it is like for the millions of immigrants who play the game that is seeking a better life. They catch you and you either give up or try again. I am not one to cry but at the very end, I just couldn’t stop myself. This is a beautiful and tragic story, and there are missing pieces such as not knowing the whereabouts of the good people who helped Javier make it to his parents. I hope that one day he reunites with Patricia, Carla, and El Chino.
