About this listen

Can a clash of wills...

When a mad lass in trousers shoots at him, Munro "Bear" MacLawry isn't sure what impresses him more - the girl's sure aim or her irresistibly tempting curves. Catriona MacColl has fled to the Highlands with her half sister to escape an unwanted wedding and wants no part of him or any man. But he can't abandon the flame-haired, sharp-tongued wildcat now that he's discovered her - not when she fits so perfectly in his arms.

Lead to a love for all time?

Munro has more than earned his nickname: He's a well-muscled, well-favored mountain of a man with an engaging bad-boy grin and a string of well-satisfied lasses behind him. Bringing Catriona food, blankets, candles, everything she needs to survive a winter in an abandoned abbey, Munro is an unexpected gift in her reckless bid for freedom - and an unexpected complication. Clan MacDonald has plans for her, and they don't include her falling for a MacLawry. But this man makes her feel like a woman - and he may be her one chance to live a life about which she's only dared dream.

Narration almost did me in

I am sorry to say the narration of the male characters was really too much. I really did struggle throughout the story.

Reader hard to listen too.

Loved the story. The reader was good with English accents, both male and female. Her Scottish accents were horrid making it hard to listen to.

Lovely story!

I haven’t read/listened to Suzanne Enoch for years. I randomly picked “Some Like It Scot” though I’d never read/listened to the previous novels. It was funny, sweet, and believable.

Cat was just tough and strong enough to remain likable, and she was pliable at the right moments (admitting her love and when to accept help). Cat’s sister Elizabeth was more or less useless in their situation, but it really didn’t detract from her charming character; she was skillfully crafted.

Bear’s family was overbearing (HA!) and it made me grit my teeth at times. He’s twenty-seven years old and they treated him as if he were fifteen and mentally disadvantaged, however, the family’s antics didn’t ruin the story. You just need to remember that’s how it was back then, with numerous adult family members living together in one house with one set leader and a distinct pecking order.

Oh, Peter was fantastic too. He wrung a few chuckles from me. Made me want to have him as my “uncle” too.

This is the first book I’ve listened to that’s been narrated by Flora MacDonald. I love her voice and that slight lisp to her speech (tongue touches the inside of upper teeth). I found her completely charming and lyrical. I’ve found more books narrated by her and can’t wait to listen to those as well.

Narration terrific !

I have not read the other stories in this series but the author did a good job of filling in any blanks that were pertinent to this story regarding the family. Only thing I would say against it was that it was probably too long, too much repeating the same dilemma the characters were facing without just getting on with the solution.
I really enjoyed the narrator! She did an excellent job with the accent and voice changes for both the male and female characters.
Overall it was entertaining, I would read another of her books.

this is a good story with only one down point, the eldest brother's character... he was one of the most annoying charecter and I just wanted to skip every time his character appeared

Very Entertaining! Love the main characters! L

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, if you like Highland romances, you will enjoy this one! Not so much mystery and fighting but it is not set as far back in time as some others. It serious at times, funny at times (to the point of laughing out loud), a little brawling between family members but just as much love!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Bear & Cat are wonderful and funny!

What about Flora MacDonald’s performance did you like?

I like the fact the men sound like men and women sound like women! She does a good job with the different characters.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed out loud a couple of times and that is unusual for me!

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed it!

Excellent series.

I enjoyed this series the characters were well developed . The interactions between the siblings was fun to listen to, he romantic scenes were steamy and still left something to the imagination. The narrator was good with the female voices. The male voices were irritating.

Get a different performer

The narrator made the main male character sound like a pirate, not a Highlander. Good story line.

Excellent over the top and wonderful!

Would you consider the audio edition of Some Like It Scot to be better than the print version?

I doubt reading it in print could have given me the same experience.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Cat and Bear. I love Bear and his loud voice and brashness. He is the strongest character I have ever experienced in any book. He has wonderful values, and caring at the same time and extremely stubborn. Cat is strong willed, caring, and independent...love her too. If ever there were a male and a female meant for each other, it is these two. Spoiler alert: Even after finishing the book, I can well imagine in my mind their lives together on and on through their lives.

Have you listened to any of Flora MacDonald’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Her performance was spot on. Her men sounded like men and the women were definitely females. I can only wonder if her throat got sore with the fabulous voice she gave to Bear. She is definitely high on my list of favorite narrators especially for being able to do a man's voice that definitely was very masculine and sexy. Wish I could give her extra stars.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The whole book was great from start to finish. Tension, excitement, laughed & cried. I even enjoyed the fight scenes and that is a first for me. I was so into the book that I wanted to engage in their conversations to push them in the right direction. But they went in the right direction even without my help.

Any additional comments?

This story raises the bar for what a man should be like with a woman. I especially love how Bear turned around from being a man not wanting to be tethered to one woman and enjoying many women of the moment to be satisfied.
