About this listen

“One of today’s leading lights in romantic fiction.” —Seattle Times

A classic tale of sensuous deception and bold new beginnings, from the remarkable New York Times bestselling author Lisa Kleypas

"Lady Hawksworth, your husband is not dead . . ."

With these words, Lara's life is turned upside down. Her unhappy, loveless marriage had ended when the Earl of Hawksworth was lost at sea. But now a man stands before her, virile and powerful, who says he is her missing husband, revealing secrets that only he would know. While this dark-eyed stranger closely resembles the earl, he is as attentive and loving as Hunter was cruel and cold, promising to make Lara his wife once again in every way. With every beat of her heart, she aches to believe that this remarkable man is who he claims to be. But is he truly the rake returned and reformed . . . or is Lara being seduced by a cunning imposter?

Good story

Not surprised that I enjoyed this book. A little too descriptive when sharing the love Sean’s but fast forwarding through that was not too distracting. Excellent narration helped to get to know the characters. Enjoyed this audiobook.

Rosalyn Landor wonderful as always, story... ok

Rosalyn makes just about any story wonderful to listen to. I wouldn't say this was wonderful, but it wasn't terrible either. For a new book from this author, I was kind of surprised by the amount of male domineering in this. A man who is supposedly in love and has to have this wonderful woman, also making her wear things and do things she doesn't want to. I found it distasteful at times. I like the idea of the storyline and I appreciated the way it turned out (altho I did guess the probable ending very early on), but I really wasn't a fan of how the hero treated the heroine at times. I know this is regency London and men had all the power, but it's also fantasy fiction and this was a little on the abusive side for me. And I've been reading historical romance for the better part of 30 years. Worth a listen? Yeah, why not. It did keep me interested the whole way through, I just had to get past my distaste during certain interactions. I actually liked the heroine, sometimes I feel like the heroine comes off as weak and whiny, but I didn't feel that way. She had a clear idea of what she wanted to do with her life and didn't want it upturned by a man. In some ways she was stuck by the role a woman has to play, but she did stand her ground and I liked that.

Triggering!!

Spousal abuse, manipulative scenes of intimacy coming far too close to abuse. I almost never write reviews, and I love most books by this author and in this genre, but this one should come with a trigger warning. First time I’ve sincerely considered DNFing a book in a long time. I pushed through… but it was a slog.

I struggled with this one

The story reminded me of the movie “Somersby.” The heroine in this story is too stupid to live. I almost threw my head phones but in the end I enjoyed the story.

Not the greatest - scroll through all the reviews

I’m a fan of Lisa Kleypas. This wasn’t the greatest of her books. Larissa or Laura, whichever you prefer to call her, is annoying. She’s a helpless twit with no personality. I kept listening to the book because I’m in between books and don’t have anything else to listen to at the moment. I honestly don’t recommend this book.

I’m realizing after I listened to the entire book, if I had scrolled further through the reviews, I would have read the honest ones. How does this book have almost 5 stars?

Seriously gals. I love nearly all of Lisa Kleypas books. This one is not on the list. Pick a different one.

One of my favorites!!!

One of my favorites from Lisa Kleypas- I have read through it a few times and now listened to it, the narrator is very good and easy to listen to. If I had to give a negative, my only issue with the book is the main character Larissa, especially towards the end, can be a little annoying/frustrating, however with that said her reasons for being so are valid and understandable.
Overall, I love this author's historicals and have listened to and reread many of them! I still find them enjoyable and steamy!

I loved this story!!

Such a talented and wonderful author and AMAZING narrator. When you put these two together you get an amazing story that you just get lost in.

Too long slow storyline

Protagonist was extremely dumb and annoying. The story could’ve been
shorter or had better plots for the time.

very much disliked the leading lady

I enjoyed very little about this novel. The female lead is not my cup of tea. she is cowardly and selfish. unrealistic and short sighted. I struggled with her all the way until the last hour of the book when I simply couldn't take her lack of common sense for one more moment
