About this listen
My father was a serial rapist. My mother was a whore. My brother is a serial killer. I escaped their madness and forged my path to freedom.
From the slums of Georgia and the projects of New Jersey, Demetrye Isoldi climbed his way to the top of the world.
Son of a Whore is a story of redemption and triumph. A story of how even though we might be broken, neglected, rejected, hurt, and abused, we do not have to struggle with our pain our entire life. We can find the power in us to unleash meaning, purpose, peace, and authenticity. Not despite the pain we lived through, but because of it.
In this raw and evocative memoir, Demetrye, a survivor of childhood abuse and trauma, and coauthor Elena Isoldi Medici empower you to:
- Find freedom from the shadow of someone else’s decisions and your own mistakes
- Take charge of your emotions
- Design your future purposefully
- Become the architect of your life
So instead of feeling powerless and remaining a victim, you can shed the chains of your pain and trauma and soar to unimaginable heights.
With a serial rapist for a father, a serial killer for a brother, and a whore for a mother, Demetrye chose to forge his path to freedom and happiness...and so can you.

Story
There is a voice of longing inside each woman. We strive so mightily to be good: good partners, daughters, mothers, employees, and friends. We hope all this striving will make us feel alive. Instead, it leaves us feeling weary, stuck, overwhelmed, and underwhelmed. We look at our lives and wonder: Wasn’t it all supposed to be more beautiful than this? We quickly silence that question, telling ourselves to be grateful, hiding our discontent—even from ourselves.

Every one of us sooner or later walks through hell. The hell of being hurt, the hell of hurting another. The hell of cancer, the hell of a reluctant, thunking shovel full of earth upon the casket of someone we deeply loved, the hell of betrayal, the hell of betraying, the hell of divorce, the hell of a kid in trouble...the hell of knowing that this year, like any year, may be our last. We all walk through hell. The point is not to come out empty-handed.... There is real and profound power in the suffering we endure if we transform that suffering into a more authentic, meaningful life.

Story
The need for change as we get older - an emotional pressure for one phase of our lives to transition into another - is a human phenomenon, neither male nor female. There simply comes a time in our lives - not fundamentally different from the way puberty separates childhood from adulthood - when it's time for one part of ourselves to die and for something new to be born.

Story
His grandfather’s lynching in the deep South, the murders of his two older brothers, and his verbally harsh and absent father all worked together to form Jason Wilson’s childhood. But it was his decision to acknowledge his emotions and yield to God’s call on his life that made Wilson the man and leader he is today. As the founder of one of the country’s most esteemed youth organizations, Wilson explains the dangers men face in our culture’s definition of “masculinity” and gives listeners hope that healing is possible.

In Freedom Is an Inside Job, Salbi explores her own riveting journey to wholeness - and how embarking on such a journey enables each of us to create the world we want to live in. After years of working as a successful CEO and change-maker, Salbi realized that if she wanted to confront and heal the shadows of the world, she needed to face her own shadows first.

Story
At a time when we mourn public figures and national tragedies with hashtags, where intimate posts about loss go viral and we receive automated birthday reminders for dead friends, it's clear we are navigating new terrain without a road map. Let's face it: Most of us have always had a difficult time talking about death and sharing our grief. We're awkward and uncertain; we avoid, ignore, or even deny feelings of sadness; we offer platitudes; we send sympathy bouquets whittled out of fruit.

"God, if you're real, make yourself real to me." Each of us spends our lives on a journey toward God. Yet often our most deeply felt longings - for meaning, for love, for significance - end up leading us away from instead of toward our Creator and the people he made us to be. Finding Your Way Back to God shows you how to understand and listen to your longings in a whole new way.

Fantastic! Ends with a twist to real forgiveness!
A real, raw, refreshingly honest book. What forgiveness really is and how to achieve it... How to take back power forfeited from past experiences, good, bad or indifferent. Way to go D & E!

Raw, Honest, Brave, Inspiring
This the story of a man's life, struggles and all. The lessons learned, abuse he was subjected to, and his ultimate saving grace are shared in vivid detail. Elena, the woman he met in college who was there through the good and bad, not only teaches Demetri, but walks along by his side through all the ups and down. They formed an unbreakable friendship which ultimately turns romantic.. I recommend reading this book yourself as the audio feels campy to me.

The audiobook is done excellently and conveys the story as intended.
