About this listen

Like a songbird in a cage, Anya has spent her entire life as the General's perfect daughter.

He snaps his fingers; she jumps. He tells her to smile; she beams like she is made of the sun itself. But underneath all those games and glitter, she's working to destroy her father and save the city she loves.

When an undine sneaks his way into her city, intent on kidnapping her, she lets him take her.

Daios is plagued by the decisions of his past. Souls haunt him, memories follow his every move, and all he knows is that perhaps stealing this woman will absolve him of his sins. If he can bring her back to his people, then they can destroy the city where his hatred was born. He's certain this will be easy. But then he sees the General's daughter, and he knows nothing will ever be the same again.

Broken and damaged, he's certain no woman will ever love him. He shouldn't even try to encourage the mating instincts that ride him hard the moment he sees her.

But when he realizes that she's the same as him, different from her people and on the outskirts of what others deem normal, he knows he's a goner. Even if it means he has to risk everything to keep her.

5 Stars!

When people say “Bring back yearning in books!” This is the book I should start recommending to them! The need Daios had for Anya easily made me feral to keep reading; I am obsessed with the “villain” tough guy only being soft for her, and Daios is absolutely that!

While I’m looking forward to continuing this series I can’t say that I’m as crazy excited to read about Maketes yet. I’m sure I’ll love it but I need a moment to mourn not reading about Daios and Anya for a little while longer!

5 Stars!!

Wow, Ms Hamm has given us another fantastic tale, with a completely reproach- less FMC. I love her female characters..... if only for the fact that they are not cry babies. And although I also love her male characters, this is the first paranormal/fantasy/sci Fi romance novel I have listened to/read, whereby the MMC scares the bejeesus out of me. He is really intimidating, his size, his voice, his character, his countenance, his possibly sized weiner😉? his future behaviors....... he scares me. He sounds like an actual monster. I don't dislike him, but I found him terrifying. I loved Arges and look forward to marketes's story. But is this book worth a read or a listen..... ABSO-FORKING-LUTELY. !!!!! Loved it Emma Hamm, you are one heaven of a writer.!!!.

Another great book to listen to but how in God's name did you take the character who was so hated in book one and make him my favorite? like? huh? I love him. A lot. I would fight the ocean herself for him.

How? Just how?

A lovely sequel. Now I REALLY want a story involving one of the of the female people of water/ Undines. Bonus points if it’s a gay story

Loved this story!

I absolutely judged this book series by its cover and ended up purchasing it on a whim. I’m so glad I did because it is excellent. I’m impatiently waiting for book 3 and will likely read it to out myself out of my misery. But also the narrators were amazing.

Impatiently waiting…

The voice actors do an amazing job. They bring the characters to life. The story itself is also very engaging and definitely made me cry and smile.

Beautiful performance

This wasn’t as good as whispers of the deep but I still enjoyed it. Daios was an antagonist in the first book and in this one we get to see more into why he is the way he is and the struggles he deals with not just mentally but also physically after losing his arm. Anya was an interesting character. I like how she didn’t let her hearing loss hold her back and how she adapted to it. In this book Anya is fighting to take her father the general of Alpha down from within the system while Daios and his people have the same goal. Their relationship was a bit too insta love for me but I still liked seeing it develop. I also really liked the introduction of the depth striders and can’t wait to read more about them.
