About this listen

Book 5 of the Space Wolf Series

Despatched to a distant system to deal with an incursion by servants of the Dark Gods, Ragnar Blackmane and his brothers of the Wolfblade find themselves in conflict with a very different foe – the Dark Angels!

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

The rivalry between the Space Wolves and Dark Angels is a cornerstone of both Space Marine Chapters, and it's been simmering for 10,000 years! Can these stubborn warriors put their differences aside and unite to face a common foe?

THE STORY

When reports reach Terra of a Chaos incursion on Hyades, Ragnar Blackmane and the Wolfblade are sent to investigate, but they discover that all is not what it seems. The Dark Angels, ancient rivals of the Space Wolves, are present and eager to allow old feuds to come to the fore. When both Chapters call in reinforcements, the situation quickly escalates out of control, and the threat of renegades and traitors is still waiting for them.

This is the first book in the series written by Lee Lightner and I think he does a fantastic job of continuing the story of Ragnar Blackmane, created by William King.

The only difference in Lightner’s writing compared to King’s I would say is the way in which the Space Marines feel. Lightner takes a more human approach to the Space Marines, his characters outwardly expressing their emotions to a greater degree than previous. Where King’s Space Marines feel all the human emotions and attempt to hide them behind grunts and howls, Lightner’s portrayal has them much less ashamed of their emotions and allow them to run freely.

One of the best aspects of this new chapter in Ragnar’s saga is that it is written from multiple different viewpoints. This allows more insight of Ragnar’s character by finally getting to hear what the other Space Marines think of him.

Phillip Sacramento is one of the greats when it comes to performance. I’m always able to tell who is speaking without it needing to be explained. The subtle intonations and change in tempo are all evidence that Sacramento is a master of his craft. Bravo, sir.

A greater insight into Ragnar Blackmane

I enjoy listening to the story about young Ragnar. The commoradery between his groups of friends/battle brothers. I cannot help but see the glaring discrepancies of the protagonist shield and how he seems to be listened to no matter how much more senior other Space Wolves are. But, it is still enjoyable.

Young Ragnar Continued

dislike is some references. he says thousand sons traitor chapter. no they are a traitor legion. they have more then a single tiny chapter at full strength. also the nova cannon part. nova cannons shoot shells. not beams like a lance would. but after all that. Great story

good classic story between wolf and lion

Cool to see some more interaction between the wolves and dark angels. Though not the finest novel I. The series, it was fun and Phillip Sacramento is a real talent.

A good entry with interesting interactions

Imo it was a good story. A bit of intrigue, more proof that the dark angels should barely ever be trusted by their cousins or the emperium of man.

Looking forward to the Blackmane’s next installment! Hopefully keeps the pace and we get to see him move up the ranks!
