Publisher's summary

Abbey Fergus has grown up knowing she wasn’t human, that she was Fae. The little sister of the Prince of Light and Illusion and ruler of the Felidae Clan, Abbey has spent her life living between two worlds. This has never been a problem for Abbey, she enjoys both worlds, but it hasn’t ever been easy. She’s been protected from all things Dark all of her life. As a little girl, the humans thought she was the weird girl who talked to "ghosts" in a strange language and were constantly testing her for autism. All because her Fae guards, who were under glamour, taught her to read and do math long before the rest of the children. As a teen she was still the weird girl, very smart and a bit on the shy side, but because she was a friend of Daire’s (the Fae warrior disguised as a hot football player), the humans left her alone.

Now Abbey’s 18th birthday is approaching fast and her nice safe world has turned to chaos. She soon finds that Daire and the other Fae have been keeping a very big secret. The war between Light and Dark is still going on in full-force and The Queen of Air and Darkness is after her. So Abbey has some tough choices to make, like who to date, how to stop the Queen, and what kind of leader she wants to be, because the deadline on her choices ends with the Winter Solstice....

Soul Mates Magic

This is the third book in the series but the first for me and I enjoyed listening. It almost has a forbidden love feeling to it and when you add the magical components it makes it even better. Overall it was written and narrated well.

This story has appeal for teens and tweens

Some books have easy appeal for all ages but this is not one of them. The title and the cover should have alerted me to this so I have lifted up the overall stars to 4. Adults do not for example in general want to read about someone flushing the toilet or endless selfish introspection.

Abbey MC (who we first meet as a toddler in Soul Mates: Scent) is heir to the throne of her great grandfather, Auberon, the King of Light & Illusion. She's been under the protection of Fae Warrior, Daire, since she was 2 and she inevitably has unwanted feelings for him which she handles in an awkward, self-centered and vain way. I guess as a Princess, she was expected to make a different romantic choice but then I am not clear why she was allowed to fraternize with humans and use them in an effort to experience 'normal' (whatever this is_

The characters are in general well-described and each is unique in their personalities as well as the magic they possess. There is variety and fun storytelling. I can see broad appeal in both the story and its narration for tweens and young teens though perhaps it needs to be 'cleaned up' a little for this age group (eg, remove the shower scenes and the sexual innuendos). It has a very cute HEA and overall is a light and fun ride and easy uplifting read.
