Publisher's summary

Riella Akema is a Pantherian, the rare child of a human and Therian. In her case, her father was an Elderfel, a cat-like humanoid that despises all other races, making her an abomination in their eyes.

The only reason she’s still alive is because her mother sacrificed everything to buy her 18 years of safety in the magically protected forest of the elves.

But now that time has come to an end.

Her birthday present from the elves is her permanent exile. Riella must now face the outside world for the first time, along with the dangers and discrimination that come with it. However, unknown to her, the Elderfel have been waiting all this time for her to reappear. Her life means more to them than a simple mixing of the races. She is more than just an abomination.

Will her magic be enough to defend herself? Or will the Elderfel take her life and steal her soul along with it?

Prologue

Really, I felt like I hadn’t truly been living until now. And I wasn’t about to go back to a life of solitude just to keep this body breathing, while my heart slowly withered away in loneliness. I needed to feel, to be alive, even if it did ultimately lead to an early death.

I looked up at him with renewed determination, only to realize he wasn’t focused on me anymore, and his expression had changed drastically. He had a look in his eyes that I hadn’t seen before, and I hoped to never see it directed at me.

Pure hatred.

I turned around, almost expecting him to be looking at the elf, only to see that all three of them were facing the other way too, swords halfway drawn. I gazed further on, trying to understand what was happening, finally seeing it for myself.

Romance driven plot

There is good action throughout the book but the story is more about the romance between the MC and her love interest

One detractor I found is how often the MC is on the verge of tears I found it very annoying and made her sound weak

Another smasher by Kurtis Eckstein.

Another smasher by Kurtis Eckstein. Love everything this dude writes. So far it seems he doesn't have it in him to write a bad book.

Can't wait for the next book!

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I really didn't suspect that I would even like it, then about an hour or two into it I started to love it! In the beginning the mc is kind of whiny and emo, but it picks up a lot later on. The narrators (Annie Ellicott & Jeff Hays) did a phenomenal job as always! Please keep up the great work Kurtis Eckstein!

definitely worth the credit

I love the world, the magic system, the side characters, the performance and generally the whole concept. However, I found myself agreeing with pretty much every insult thrown at the Mc. She is stupid, dumb, blind etc... Now that isn't to say I hate her but that level of incompetence is extremely annoying to read.

it was enjoyable

I wish this where better reviewed just so I could be certain it would get a 2nd book this has a lot of potential.

The characters are well built and the world is got a lot to explore. that where the book sort of ends, a lot of questions that got of you invested. characters who could grow a lot and really become something.

Sadly it does all this with a up and down emotional ride that turns a lot of people away. So I'll just keep my fingers crossed it will get a second book.

Forget the haters

I’m not big on writing reviews so I’ll keep this short and sweet...

I believe this book was masterfully done, I was able to get into this book as if I was there walking side by side with each character... only part I don’t understand is the mc blue chain power I know I sealed away evil inside her but I know there has to be more to it...

I’m looking forward to the next book and hope it comes out soon cuz I’ve been waiting patiently for a little over a year now lol

unexpected, enjoyable

I was surprised by the author's choices, how he advanced the plot. refreshing. The characters were enjoyable. Emotion was conveyed well. The Narrators (voice actors?) were excellent.
The sexual aspect of the story was a bit tame, and very little to no cursing. Yet, slavery and forced prostitution are major plot points, so I wonder what the age of the target audience is? Did the publisher meddle, trying to make the story more "safe?"
Whenever the character was indecisive, because of her lack of self worth, we got a long back and forth as she debated with herself. This was repeated far too often, Trust your readers to make assumptions, especially when it is a recurring theme.
