About this listen

Read—and sung—by Sara Bareilles!

With refreshing candor, Sounds Like Me reveals Sara Bareilles - the artist and the woman - and her take on songwriting, soul searching, and what's discovered along the way. She shares the joys and the struggles that come with creating great work, all while staying true to herself. Imbued with humor and marked by Sara's confessional writing style, this collection tells the inside story behind some of her most popular songs.

Most recently known for her chart-topper "Brave", Sara first broke through in 2007 with her multiplatinum single "Love Song". She has released five albums that have sold 2.5 million copies and spawned several hits. More than a privileged view inside the experience of a remarkable musical talent - this is a moving tribute to the universal search for growth, healing, and self-acceptance.

fabulous as always

I couldn't turn it off :-) I listened to the whole book straight through. If you love Sara Bareilles/her music (and why wouldn't you?) you will love this book!

Couldn't get enough of it!

I loved this book. Honestly, I wasn't sure who Sarah was but I had just listened to Ben Folds book and he was mentioned on this. Once I heard the songs I knew who she was. Once I listened to her in this book, I wish I had grown up with her. Such a cool process of going through her life moments. My favorite part by far was her letters to herself. Just amazing. I wish I could look at my "chapters" and write them back to myself. Albeit a much less adventurous and fun story. Keep writing Sarah! And thank you for sharing.

A Very Honest Sara Bareilles

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would because I love listening to Sara Bareilles' music. Her songs always reach out to me in terms of different emotions, in terms of the music as well as lyrics. One of her songs that moved me the most was "She Used to Be Mine" and I am so glad to have heard her expressed her feelings towards that song.

What other book might you compare Sounds Like Me to and why?

Milder version of Mindy Kaling but better because you get to listen to Sara Bareilles sing in her book!

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

Very natural narration with her stories and the way she sings the songs in the audiobook. It's like I'm listening to Sara talking on the phone with me!

AMAZING

I absolutely loved listening to Sara tell her stories in what felt like a candid and genuine way. Hearing her sing the accapella versions of her songs was amazing and I couldn’t help but feel genuinely close to her.

Heartwarming

It's a wonderful thing to get to know Sara through this meduim. The stories she shared in this book will make you smile, laugh, and cry. You'll undoubtedly reflect on your own life experiences and relate to hers. Expect to be moved, inspired, and love her even more than you do now.

Sarah at her best

I purchased the audio version in addition to the actual book, mostly because Sara Bareilles is amazing and I wanted to support her as an artist. Her reading brings the book more to life in those spots where I wasn't sure if she was serious or her usual loveable sarcastic self.

It is great to hear her share her experiences throughout her life and career, but most important to be so vulnerable with her audience/fans. If you are a Sara fan, you'll fall in love with her even more and if you're a newbie, this book is a great introduction to the amazing person Sara Bareilles is. I thoroughly enjoyed this book from beginning to end.

Simple Beauty

I wouldn't call myself a huge fan of Sara's prior to listening (reading?) her book, "Sounds Like Me" but upon finishing, I laughed, I cried and I wanted to go meet her for coffee.

She is simply a beautiful person, sincere, relatable, just a delight to listen to- I adored this book.

If you don't already love her, you will by the end

Sara Bareilles is as good of a narrator as she is a songwriter. Her book is full of her comical wit and quirky admittings of awkward encounters. She'll have you laughing, calmly listening to her music, and by the end, you'll have a whole new insight into nearly all of her music. Before listening to this, I loved all of her songs. After, I feel like I have an in-depth understanding of who she is and new perspectives to view her already moving messages.

I was won over

I read this for an assignment. I didn't know Sara and I wasn't interested in her life. She starts each chapter by singing one of her songs (a capella) and then shares her private life experiences that inspired the song. She quickly turned this chore into a delight as I laughed and cried through her stories and songs. Sara is insightful, eloquent, compassionate, and tender, and a very talented singer/songwriter. I will now be looking up some of her songs.

I am usually very insistent that writers never narrate their own books. This is an exception to that. Sara is also a great actress and presents her material with wonderful intonation and even voices.
