"Searing, deeply moving, and incredibly poignant... This isn’t simply a book on what it means to be trans, it’s about what it means to be human."—Alok Vaid-Menon

"Actor Elliot Page, who starred in the movie JUNO, gives an emotional, intimate performance of his gorgeous memoir... He narrates these memories with an openness that will make listeners feel like they're right there with him. It's the quiet rawness of his voice that makes this audiobook so moving. This performance hardly feels like a performance at all. If you listen to one celebrity memoir this year, make it this one."—AudioFile

"...the longer you listen the less chronology matters to the overall portrait that emerges: of a lifelong fighter who still, thanks to stubborn prejudices and reactionary policy decisions, has much to fight for."—The New York Times

NAMED A MOST ANTICIPATED BOOK by Salon, The Week, Elle, Bustle, and more.

Full of intimate stories, from chasing down secret love affairs to battling body image and struggling with familial strife, Pageboy is a love letter to the power of being seen. With this evocative and lyrical debut, Oscar-nominated star Elliot Page captures the universal human experience of searching for ourselves and our place in this complicated world.

“Can I kiss you?” It was two months before the world premiere of Juno, and Elliot Page was in his first ever queer bar. The hot summer air hung heavy around him as he looked at her. And then it happened. In front of everyone. A previously unfathomable experience. Here he was on the precipice of discovering himself as a queer person, as a trans person. Getting closer to his desires, his dreams, himself, without the repression he’d carried for so long. But for Elliot, two steps forward had always come with one step back.

With Juno’s massive success, Elliot became one of the world’s most beloved actors. His dreams were coming true, but the pressure to perform suffocated him. He was forced to play the part of the glossy young starlet, a role that made his skin crawl, on and off set. The career that had been an escape out of his reality and into a world of imagination was suddenly a nightmare.

As he navigated criticism and abuse from some of the most powerful people in Hollywood, a past that snapped at his heels, and a society dead set on forcing him into a binary, Elliot often stayed silent, unsure of what to do. Until enough was enough.

The Oscar-nominated star who captivated the world with his performance in Juno finally shares his story in a groundbreaking and inspiring memoir about love, family, fame—and stepping into who we truly are with strength, joy and connection.

The best celebrity memoir audiobooks are in a league of their own—there is no greater listening experience than a memoir performed by the celebrity behind the title. Their charisma and authenticity greatly enhance the experience, making it all the more engaging. Many listeners who would never think to read a celebrity memoir in print gravitate to the genre in audio. There’s something magical about hearing, in their own voice, the nitty-gritty of a star’s path.

Editorial Review

A masterclass in celebrity memoir
As transgender folks in the US have faced an ongoing wave of legislation attacking their existence, the narrative surrounding their very personhood has been seized and presented absent of any lived experiences. It feels especially timely, then, that in his debut memoir, Pageboy, actor Elliot Page proves that his story, his reality, and his identity belong only to himself and are his alone to share. In this exquisitely written and delicately performed listen, Page explores the pursuit of authenticity and the fight for survival, two oft-conflicting undertakings that would define much of his young life. Whether unearthing the trauma of a stalker who stole his sense of safety in his youth or exploring queer desire, sex, and joy in all its multifaceted glory, Page does not once flinch or equivocate. Instead, he stands fully in his truth, recognizing the darkest moments of his path while inviting others burdened by repression into the light. —Alanna M., Audible Editor

Powerful, moving, deeply honest

This was an amazing “coming of age” type book, though in this case, the author is coming into his true self. It was a harrowing journey, and some of the events related were very hard to listen to. So much pain, so much raw emotion. But it was clear that Elliot struggled with who he was and the disconnect with what his body looked like. And the lack of support or outright hostility he received was gut-wrenching. I’m so very grateful to all of his friends who DID support him and help him finally become his true self!

I did sometimes get confused in the timeline, as he jumped around a lot and it wasn’t always clear what time period he was describing. And I would have loved to know more about his journey in transitioning, especially things like how he chose his name, and what it was like on the set of Umbrella Academy when he arrived as a man. (I have understood that he has received nothing but support from the studio and company, which is great!) It just would have been good to relive some of his joy, after 27 chapters of mostly pain. Still, I highly recommend this book!!

CW: Prospective listeners should know that there are sexual assault, drug use, self harm, and extreme homophobia scenes in the book. It’s not always an easy listen. But so worth it!!

Sageboy

A wonderful becoming story that will save lives. Though it’s one person’s perspective, the themes for queer people everywhere are the same- Be brave to truly live so that one day trans and queer/trans folks won’t have to be brave. They can Just , be.

Really excellent

Loved the non-linear structure (trans time as he calls it - getting closer to the revelation, then further away and close again) and learned a lot from his wisdom. Funny at times, but mostly wrenching and thoughtful. The performance too is very Page - his anxiety and rawness coming through.

Elliot Page you are a hero. 🏳️‍🌈

This work is beautiful for all folks, and he speaks so eloquently to the importance of community and love in coming out again and again. Elliot is also an absolutely brilliant writer who’s narrative style is varied and beautifully descriptive. From one queer - this book spoke to my soul. Thank you Elliot Page for having the courage to share your whole truth.

Deep and Insightful

I’ve always loved Elliot Page since I saw him in Juno. The brutal honesty the insightfulness, and the beauty were absolutely a gift to listen to and gain perspective.

Thank you for putting yourself out there

For sharing your life and for presenting transgender reality in such a big way. I would love for here more detail around your experience with testosterone and how it’s been for you more recently, post surgery. The positives and shifts as you have stepped into yourself
