Publisher's summary

"Where no one has been dumb enough to have gone before."

Vance Turbo, Hero of Space, has spent most of his hard-won officer's career helping refugees. This ends when a star gets blown up and he accidentally ends up saving everyone.

Now the captain of the E.S.S Ares, he is on a goodwill mission to Contested Space. Unfortunately, his crew is made up of people who couldn't qualify for Space Academy but are now in thanks to lowered enlistment standards. Captain Turbo has also been charged by the Elder Races to find out who blew up the star or they're going to destroy humanity. Did we mention the evil Notha Emperor wants to be his best friend? All in a day's work for the galaxy's most questionably qualified explorer.

Space Academy is an all-new series from the hilarious duo of C.T. Phipps (Supervillainy Saga, Agent G) and Michael Suttkus (The Bright Falls Mysteries, Lucifer's Star) that lampoons space opera and military science fiction.

Great follow up!

CTP is becoming one of my favorite authors, from supervillainy series to red room. His humor and and pop culture reference make for a great read, and at a point I thought is he serious about anything. Then you get a few chapters into his books and realize the depth of the stories and how his humor gets you there. Been a blast getting to know his books and this series is no exception, with his writing and JK as the narrator you cant go wrong.

Character of main character

Too much talk of sexual relations. Sounds like high school opera. Interesting relationship of different cultures.

YES!!!! Vance is back!

I loved Space Academy Dropouts, so listening to this was a no-brainer. I love science fiction, especially the snarky space variety, and this book delivers that in droves. From snarky AIs to vampires, this story has it all. In many ways, the audiobook version is better, and the narrator does a fantastic job. He is what I pictured Vance Turbo would sound like. The character names are hilarious. For instance, one of the AI's is called the TRS-8021, a reference to Radio Shack's TRS-80, I'm sure! My favorite was the one called Shat-3221931, a funny Star Trek reference. This book is pure fun. I listened to this on a red-eye flight, and my laughter kept everyone up. If you are looking for a snarky sci-fi story that keeps you in stitches, this audiobook is for you. I highly recommend it.

Another outstanding book!

This was worthy of being a sequel to the first book, and I can’t wait for the third one to drop!

Fantastic follow up to Dropouts

Space Academy Rejects is a great follow up to Space Academy Dropouts. It has the same great sense of humor, and the short gap between books gave the characters some nice room to grow “off camera” so the story could more naturally expand.
Because the stage is much bigger in this book. There’s more political maneuvering and intrigue going on, and a larger cast of secondary characters. Vance has a bigger set of responsibilities to juggle, and the stakes are higher. But of course they still find time to crack jokes along the way! Also, cybernetic dinosaurs and space battles! So, lots to love going on here.

There’s some new members in the crew that I really loved, and who add a bit more depth to the character party. But not to fear, your favorites are still around too, Trish, in particular, I enjoyed seeing her arc continue to develop. And one cameo that made me especially happy.

The writing is fantastic, as usual, for these authors. And Kafer really out did himself on this one. They threw a couple strange alien accents and impersonations at him and he more than rose to the challenge!

If you liked the first book you’ll love this one too, in some ways I liked it even more than the first book and eagerly looking forward to the next.

New Favorite author

I've been on Audible since 2015. During that time I've listened about audio 202 books. I generally follow listen to a small number of authors religiously. When I was offered the opportunity to listen to CT's books I thought hmm ok. But honestly I've been pleasantly surprised how much I enjoy all his pop culture references. So fantastic are these one liners and story ideas especially as our current history heats up around the development of A.I. I really enjoying these books. C.T. Will be another author I look to exploring his various books. Jeff does a fantastic job bringing these characters to life! thanks Jeff for all your hard work!

Fun, Suspense-filled, Military Sci-Fi

Vance Turbo returns as captain of the E.S.S. Ares. The powers that be are sending a spaceship of misfits and the captain of all misfits on a goodwill mission … something is not quite right at all. He has been asked by the Elder Races to find the person/entity responsible for blowing up a star. Of course, if he fails in discovering the responsible person, humanity will be destroyed.

The authors C.T. Phipps and Michael Suttus continue the careful world-building and character development they are well known for. Their plot building is well done along with a few interesting plot twists that add to the parody of the story. I enjoy the throw-back references to an era gone as they bring back fond memories and truly fit within the story.

The narrator, Jeffrey Kafer, once again delivers a strong performance using unique voices for each character that are consistent with the first book. He delivers the most outrageous comments and dialogue easily and with the correct tone.

The humor mixed with military sci-fi makes this space opera a delight. As a team, these authors and narrator capture the fun and excitement of the Space Academy perfectly.

There were no issues with the quality or production of this audiobook.

Space Academy...the journey continues

Vance Turbo and Co. are back for yet another crazy adventure, and of course the fate of the universe hangs in the balance. While taking place years after the first one, Vance is still the same reckless wise cracking idealist. I wouldn’t want him any other way. While they thought they’d dealt with the SKAMM threat years ago, someone in the universe still has some of those deadly missiles and just used one to destroy a system, and now Vance and his crew have been tasked with tracking down this threat before it’s too late. Like the first book, Rejects is filled with a crazy cast of characters and features an exciting story. And of course the pop culture references and humor are back in force, though this time around much of humor is a bit more subtle compared to the in your face we got in Dropouts. Can’t way which I actually prefer since both are great fun.
