Publisher's summary

It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother's coffin as the world watched in sorrow-and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling-and how their lives would play out from that point on.

For Harry, this is that story at last.

Before losing his mother, twelve-year-old Prince Harry was known as the carefree one, the happy-go-lucky Spare to the more serious Heir. Grief changed everything. He struggled at school, struggled with anger, with loneliness-and, because he blamed the press for his mother's death, he struggled to accept life in the spotlight.

At twenty-one, he joined the British Army. The discipline gave him structure, and two combat tours made him a hero at home. But he soon felt more lost than ever, suffering from post-traumatic stress and prone to crippling panic attacks. Above all, he couldn't find true love.

Then he met Meghan. The world was swept away by the couple's cinematic romance and rejoiced in their fairy-tale wedding. But from the beginning, Harry and Meghan were preyed upon by the press, subjected to waves of abuse, racism, and lies. Watching his wife suffer, their safety and mental health at risk, Harry saw no other way to prevent the tragedy of history repeating itself but to flee his mother country. Over the centuries, leaving the Royal Family was an act few had dared. The last to try, in fact, had been his mother...

For the first time, Prince Harry tells his own story, chronicling his journey with raw, unflinching honesty. A landmark publication, Spare is full of insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief.

Media ethics & integrity must be addressed!!

Traumatic. Struck by how we as humans never learn from our mistakes or our history, and how for the sake of the Crown, a family will stand in silence at the destruction of another for the sake of self. Something must be done about the ethics in media reporting and general lack of journalistic integrity. Even reports on interviews with PH is distorted and misleading. I hope the Sussexes have a fleet of people keeping track on misleading and false reporting so that the entire sordid media bunch can be held accountable.

Riveting

Brilliantly narrated by Prince Harry himself. I did not want the book to end at all.

Beautifully written and narrated

Coming from Botswana Africa, I totally appreciate how he found solace in our haven. Beautifully written and totally unpretentious. Felt like I was transported to His world, a world so far removed from my own yet so relatable through his writings.

Well written and well narrated!

One cannot help but regard this autobiography through the lens of your own preconceived ideas of the royals and especially prince Harry. Whatever your subjective opinion about the content, the book was beautifully written and superbly narrated! It is a deeply personal account of Prince Harry’s life, shaded by his own grief and grievances with the intrusive media. His deep sense of loss, loneliness, captivity within the system and frustration with the media is pervasive throughout the book. I would highly recommend listening to the book before reading media excerpts taken out of context and come to your own conclusions. Listening to Prince Harry narrating his own story made it even more personal and definitely enhanced the content.

honesty at last

I can only praise Harry for being courageously open and direct in this book. it could never have been easy to try and fight the British press, and he never backed down. If you choose to believe what the press print, you'd probably believe that the sky is green as well.

Insightful

I was never a fan of the British monarchy but I still wanted to hear Prince Harry's perspective. it did not disappoint.

I love the flow of the book and his voice. It has sad moments but in my opinion, some laugh out loud ones as well.

Give it a listen with an open mind.

Wishing the family love and peace.

Riveting

This was my first audiobook and it definitely easier to listen to than to read! Harry was sincere and surprisingly relatable.
