About this listen

It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother's coffin as the world watched in sorrow-and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling-and how their lives would play out from that point on.

For Harry, this is that story at last.

Before losing his mother, twelve-year-old Prince Harry was known as the carefree one, the happy-go-lucky Spare to the more serious Heir. Grief changed everything. He struggled at school, struggled with anger, with loneliness-and, because he blamed the press for his mother's death, he struggled to accept life in the spotlight.

At twenty-one, he joined the British Army. The discipline gave him structure, and two combat tours made him a hero at home. But he soon felt more lost than ever, suffering from post-traumatic stress and prone to crippling panic attacks. Above all, he couldn't find true love.

Then he met Meghan. The world was swept away by the couple's cinematic romance and rejoiced in their fairy-tale wedding. But from the beginning, Harry and Meghan were preyed upon by the press, subjected to waves of abuse, racism, and lies. Watching his wife suffer, their safety and mental health at risk, Harry saw no other way to prevent the tragedy of history repeating itself but to flee his mother country. Over the centuries, leaving the Royal Family was an act few had dared. The last to try, in fact, had been his mother...

For the first time, Prince Harry tells his own story, chronicling his journey with raw, unflinching honesty. A landmark publication, Spare is full of insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief.

The sound of his voice reading Part 3 Chapter 80 and onwards broke my heart. I wish him, Meghan and their babies a safe place to call home and all the love and joy in the world. It really didn’t have to come to this!

Good King Harry

This book is frank, authentic and if people can leave the media opinion behind and see this from an honest and reliable perspective, they would see a vulnerable honest and brave story. Much respect.

Love this authentic story

I think the book is well written and it is refreshing to hear Harry’s story in his own words. As with every family feud, perspective makes a big difference. There seems to have been a lot of nit-picking in the news on some of the facts in this book. I would say, listen to him with an open mind and then decide what you believe is true. This is his perspective and his memories.
What is clear, Harry’s lived experience and his personal perspective is somewhat different from what other books on the subject portray. The topic remains contentious.
It’s a really good narrative with some parts more believable than others

Really good book

I don’t have the right words to describe this book, but I’m glad we get to hear directly from Prince Harry. Family is hard, they can be the best and the worst thing to happen to a person. Especially with a family like theirs where they don’t fully have the encouragement to be their own person- and are required to play along with the script expected of them. Sad. I hope he finds peace & joy in this life.

As for the British media, my goodness! You lot are abhorrent.

Heartbreaking

Listen to this no matter what your thoughts on Harry are. Eye opening, interesting, heartbreaking

The media sure have a lot to answer for

It’s good to get it from the horses mouth

Incredible

Frustrated with the lies and total BS from the British Tabloids, Harry, in his own words, sets the record straight.

A delightful listen, read with Harry's lovely, educated, British accent. A well-told story of loves, lives, and lies.

Charming details of this childhood, his teens, loss of his beloved mother, military service, losing everything he loved to the British Press. He lost his mum to the tabloids. He lost his Military career to the tabloids. He lost girlfriends to the tabloids. He lost his freedom to do anything, shopping, buying groceries, going for a walk, freedom to do anything normal was lost to the tabloids.

And then the fight to find a way to live with his much-loved wife and children, outside the gilded cage he was born into, away from the control of the tabloids. His story told his way. No wonder the tabloids are in a hissy fit.

It's a good story. An interesting story. An important story to hear. Listen. You'll be glad you did.

Take that Daily Mail!

Before listening to this you should remember that this man is born into royalty which is privilege, and so you need to remove your bias towards white privilege and really listen to the story he’s telling.

His family lives under a magnifying glass in the world media, Harry tells his side on what that feels like. Growing up and always having a team of bodyguards and a gaggle of papps everywhere he went, invading every relationship and being responsible for the death of his mother has left him with deep trauma.

He shares his relationships of those close to him and his loving bond with his father and brother who are so consumed by their “work” that they can’t see the damage it is causing on a personal level.

I enjoyed the journey from boyhood to adulthood and he wasn’t afraid to talk about his own frostbitten Willy!

He shares it all!

It is impeccably written. The audio book is a MUST! Prince Harry’s voice brings the book alive. It is enjoyable hearing how he expresses himself but also difficult to hear the raw, emotion in his voice at times. The world is full of “fake news” so his version of the truth should be heard.

Amazing and Moving Story Beautifully Told

Completely changes the way we look at the royal family, the way we think the love fairy tale lives. Feel so bad for what Harry and Meg went through.

Amazing!!
