About this listen

"Special Circumstances": The words have sent chills down Tally's spine since her days as a repellent, rebellious ugly. Back then Specials were a sinister rumor - frighteningly beautiful, dangerously strong, breathtakingly fast. Ordinary pretties might live their whole lives without meeting a Special. But Tally's never been ordinary. And now, in the third book in the series, Tally's been turned into a Special: a superamped fighting machine engineered to keep the uglies down and the pretties stupid. The strength, the speed, and the clarity and focus of her thinking feel better than anything Tally can remember. Most of the time. One tiny corner of her heart still remembers something more. Still, it's easy to tune that out - until Tally's offered a chance to stamp out the rebels of the New Smoke permanently. It all comes down to one last choice: listen to that tiny, faint heartbeat or carry out the mission she's programmed to complete. Either way,Tally's world will never be the same.

The ending was wonderful. I think, unlike most book series, the ending tied off most if not all loose ends and really gave us that feel that the story really is over. Of course I will always miss our girl Tally and our boy David. Brilliantly made main characters that will stay with me fir a long time.

BEST BOOK SERIES EVER

This was a great book when I first read it in 2007, and it has held up. I would recommend this book to any YA reader in 2024.

A YA classic

The author did a great job making you feel the details of being a Special. His hatred for our society taints this book and I'm not sure I feel about Tally becoming an ecoterroritst at the end (perhaps it's my assumption). Overall though, it's an interesting book that makes you think.

Still a good series, not sure about the ending

Ughhh this series really was so good! The story line is very interesting and the characters are inviting and Tally is being thrown around in all these different situations and she’s only 16! Im happy I ran across this series.

Sooooo good!!!

It seems this series just keeps getting better with each book. On to the fourth and final book in this series.

Better still

Starting with the Uglies and ending with Specials kept my full attention to the end. I highly recommend this trilogy!

Thought Provoking Trilogy

I enjoyed this easy read very much and look forward to watching it on Netflix.

Happy ending

Without spoiling the plot, this book has many twists and turns as Tally and Shea live new lives as Specials. Tally will be tested in her new role and will have to choose which side she is on. The ending was a big surprise and might disappoint some readers, but overall the book is worth reading to find out what happens to the characters we have grown to love.

A Fascinating End to Tally's Story

This was my favorite book in the trilogy that centered around Tally. Definitely 5 stars for me. I feel it wrapped up Tally’s story nicely. There was drama. There was death. There was intrigue. There was the condemnation of the act of cutting. There was the beginning of exploring what freedom means. I know it will cover it more in Extras.

I just found out there’s an entire sequel series that I’m going to buy physical copies of and then maybe do the audiobooks next year if I don’t do them this year.

The narrator felt more alive in this book buuuuut did anyone else have random times where the narration turned tinny? Sometimes for just a few words. Other times for like entire paragraphs. It first happened in Part Two and it threw me for a loop each time it happened. But then it would correct and be perfectly fine.

Onto Extras and a new narrator!
