About this listen

The next thrilling book in Jennifer Estep's New York Times and USA Today best-selling Elemental Assassin series.

Keep your friends close but your enemies within stabbing distance.

One important lesson I've learned in the assassination business is that to be the best, you have to roll with the punches. Now that I'm queen of Ashland's underworld - by default, not by choice - a lot more punches are being thrown my way. But I suppose that's the price of victory for taking down some of the underworld's top dogs. Good thing I have my Ice and Stone magic to help me survive my volatile new position. Just when I think things are finally settling down, someone tries to murder me during a hush-hush underworld meeting. But the real surprise is how strangely familiar my shadowy assailant seems to be.

My job is to maintain order among killers, crooks, and thieves, and soon I'm embroiled in a bloody game where the ability to keep secrets could be the greatest superpower of all. My enemies have all sharpened their knives and laid their traps, waiting for me to fall. But this Spider weaves her own webs of death.

Fantastic

As usual a nail biting storyline and a narrator that embodies her characters couldn't stop listening

Great Series

The Elemental Assassin books are great.  very engaging with interesting strong characters and good story lines.  a perfect mix of fantasy, action and romance. And I love having a series with a strong, add kicking female as the lead character

Spider delivers a good bite

The Spider Assassin finds herself involved in a great new take, opening the door for a new, intriguing villain. My only issue is that each new story focuses a bit more on the sexual relationship of Gin and Owen, which detracts from the story, in my opinion. The Spider has become less kick ass and more the stronger half of a couple. And frankly, Owen is uninteresting.

Gin as queen of Ashland underworld

Gin is now considered the queen of Ashland’s underworld because she defeated the previous two rulers. Unfortunately, she doesn’t really want the job. But when someone tries to blow her and her friends up she quickly steps up to the plate and goes out hunting.

This was an interesting one with Gin because she is now considered the head honcho of Ashland. She is realizing that it is a lot more time consuming than she was expecting. I liked that we are seeing her step into this role and how she is changing the underworld by being in power. I liked her blunt way of dealing with grievances too.

This one had a lot of action packed fights and near death experiences, some of which I was not expecting. There were also a lot of flashbacks with Fletcher, which I always love.  Like always, this one had the humor and snark that Gin and her family, especially Finn, are great at.

Overall, this was a great installment in this series and I can’t wait to see what is going to happen next after that ending.

TW: death of a parent; abusive father and brother; fratricide

Same story different titles.

I loved this series at one point but its kinda repetitive now. Gen cant figure anything out. Mess with my family and I'm coming for you. My knives - I'm gonna cut you. Family almost dies. Make a bunch of food. End the book with i killed that person now there's another worse in the next book.

Same formula rinsed and repeated. I love the reader she is amazing as always but. I really need some more character growth.

perceptions

Good addition to the series. Gin faces one of the toughest opponents yet. Lots of action and we get to see more of Gin's emotional side when lover Owen is hurt. The most interesting part of the book is the revelation at the end. I have got to read the next book now just to see how the revelation will affect Gin and her closest family and associates.

This author never let's me down!

I love this whole series. The books in this series are all awesome in there own way. You should start with 1st then read this one. From the sounds of the ending we get more to come. So happy about that. Most authors end great series after 13 or so. But Mrs. Estep is keeping it alive!
