About this listen

Purely by chance, renowned author Mary Summer Rain met No-Eyes, a blind Chippewa visionary who lives in a small, remote cabin in the Colorado mountains. Spirit Song the first volume in Summer Rain's No-Eyes tetralogy, introduces us to this remarkable, unforgettable woman. No-Eyes teaches her about many fascinating topics, including the history of the Chippewa people, the songs of the shaman, and the healing power of medicinal herbs. Set against a vivid, beautiful, natural backdrop, Spirit Song is both an informative guide to an intriguing culture, and a touching story of an unexpectedly rich teacher-student relationship. The No-Eyes tetralogy also includes Pheonix Rising, Dreamwalker, and Phantoms Afoot.©1985, 1993 by Mary Summer Rain (P)1997 by Alternative Audio ESP Indigenous Peoples Indigenous Studies Literature & Fiction Occult Other Religions, Practices & Sacred Texts Religious United States Shamanism Extrasensory Perception

Beautiful story

I read this when it first came out, powerful. If you play it at 1.7 speed, the narrator is less annoying but she is annoying. It was a different time.

Terrible Narrator

A friend told me that she read this book years ago and liked it very much. I honestly could not enjoy the book due to the narration.

I don’t like the way she made no eyes sound

She made “no eyes” sound terrible but the story is beautiful. I recommend this to anyone on their spiritual journey.

good

Loved the material. But I was disappointed by the narration. Could have gotten someone who sounded less like Joan Rivers. It would have been more enjoyable.

Loved the story but not the narration

Would you listen to Spirit Song again? Why?

Sorry to say I probably wont LISTEN to it again. I will however read it again and again.

How could the performance have been better?

The narration was very disappointing. The voice was like listening to Joan Rivers... I don't like Joan Rivers whiny voice either.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, barring the narrator.

Any additional comments?

Mary Summer Rain is an amazing woman and writer. And I apologize to her for disliking her choice (?) of narrators. It could have been so much more enjoyable.

Amazing book horrible narrator

The book is amazing. A beautiful story. But the narrator was dramatic and ruined it for me.

Spirit Song Narration

I read this book and enjoyed it very much. But narration is awful. Nancy Fish has got to be the worst narrator I've ever heard. It ruiined the book for me because I literally cannot stand to listen to her voice, her horrific overacting, and her lack of authenticity.

narration kills

The book itself may be alright, but I have to admit that I can't get in to it based on the narration. It sounds like someone reading to a 2 year old. Very breathy, whiny and overdramatic. You just can't overlook it and get in to the book.

Horrible narration, average story

A friend recommended this book to me, and at the end I just sat here wondering why.

The poor narration was really difficult to get over and after listening for a time became like nails on a chalkboard to me. Her voice is whiny and sounds like she is complaining the entire time. Even my own children aren’t allowed to talk like that!

The story itself didn’t seem to have a point or a lesson. I was hoping for some sort of take away but the ending fell flat. Some interesting visuals but I couldn’t really get into it due to the narration anyway.

Bottom line - if you want to read this, get the book instead of the audible.
