About this listen

After zero-gravity heroics left astronaut Nicolas Rogers injured, his new job as a park ranger seems perfect. Being a caretaker of his corner of the Smoky Mountains makes him almost okay with having to be on Earth. More importantly, this deep in the woods, Nico's practically a hermit at a remote ranger station. Sure, he has good friends in nearby Knoxville, but he's otherwise free from petty drama and broken hearts...until Deen enters his world.

Caught in a compromising position by relentless paparazzi, rock star and international playboy Deen Jayse barely escaped with his career intact. He needs image rehab and a break from fame. His manager strongly suggests a stint in the Smokies, promoting national parks and being wholesome. That would be a lot easier if Nico weren't there in his sexy park ranger uniform.

Nico already has his hands full with arsonists at the park without Deen adding to his workload. He thinks he has to babysit a spoiled celebrity, but when he catches a glimpse of the man behind the persona, he sees something he can't resist. They've both experienced the isolation of fame, and while their loneliness brings them together, their worlds threaten to tear them apart. Deen can't just drop everything to go live in the mountains, and Nico can't abandon them.... After a taste of being together, how can they possibly face a future apart?

Splinter is a stand-alone gay romance novel with an HEA ending and no cliff-hanger. Book number two, Grasp, now available!

You're the North Star in my sky. Awesome story!!

I had read this book on Kindle and was excited for the Audio book. The narrator, Greg Boudreaux makes this incredible story come alive for me. His telling of the story created depth and feel to this story for me and made me fall in love with Nico and Deen all over again.

An interesting park ranger and a rock-star with heart, meet in the Smoky Mountains and fiend their missing half. Start to finish; this is an excellent love story. The characters are so well drawn that they come to life on these pages and draw you into their hearts and minds. i loved the flow of the story and how i got to know Nico and Deen.

They have a lot to overcome to get their HEA from music executives, famous pasts, the public eye and an arsonist. However their connection is cellular and the passion is intense, and the spicy scenes are really well done.

I liked meeting the other Significant Brothers and look forward to their stories. i love when we get to know a group of guys and find how their lives will develop and get to look back on how the other couples are doing.

A wonderfully written story My favorite line of this book is:
'You're the smoke on my mountains, the North Star in my sky, and if you feel like me boy, there's no more goodbyes.'

Deen and Nico

Deen comes across as the aloof, cocky rockstar. Nico may be attracted to the guy but he's not impressed by the attitude. It doesn't take long for Deen's true self to show up without all the glitz and glamour and that is the Deen that is way too appealing for Nico to resist. They fall in love each knowing that the other is committed to their career. I wasn't sure until the last how they were going to manage it. There's a bit of cloak and dagger with an arsonist in the forest. I really liked that Deen treated his fans like real people. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

Audiobook: Excellent narrator!

Beautiful story!!

Sweet romance, low angst, and communication. I really enjoyed listening to this book and meeting the first set of Significant Brothers. At first I wasn't sure I would like Deen but by the middle I was singing a different tune. I love that Deen and Nico communicate their feelings and thoughts rather than let silly things come between them. The way they work through the fact that they are from different worlds was wonderful. Yes the book has insta-love and not all authors can pull that off without the shifter world being involved but E. Davies does and he does it beautifully. The connection between these two lonely men is undeniable and their chemistry is just, well I will just say be careful where you listen if you are using audible :) Which brings me to the narration, which is wonderfully done by Greg Boudreaux, I could listen to him all day! This is a wonderful start to this series and I am definitely looking forward to the rest of this series coming out on audible since my kindle time is very limited these days!

delightful

Would I listen to it again: yes
Did the story keep me engaged: yes
Was I invested in the characters: yes

Story comment: nice pace, engaging characters and a low angst, entertaining story.
I like that both Deen and Nico are independent, intelligent men who can still show vulnerabilities.

Narrator comment: Greg Boudreaux's masterful performance works perfectly and brings the story and it's characters to life. His rhythm, changes in pitch, intonation's and the cadence of his voice all work perfectly to provide me with a completely immersible audio experience.

I look forward to meeting the rest of the "Significant Brothers".

Excellent story and start of a new series

Audio Review
I listened to the audio book as a second "read" and I enjoyed it very much the second time around. The narrator did a great job of differentiating the voices so it didn't sound stale or monotone. I liked listening to this, and I would definitely listen to it again in the future.

Original Review
This was a great start to E. Davies' next series. Nico took himself out of the limelight after a difficult event during his astronaut career. He is now a park ranger, and tends to stay by himself. Deen is a bad boy musician who needs to rehab his image by going off the major grid for a little bit. He is sent to the park for a couple of weeks and Nico is his guide. I enjoyed watching their friendship grow, Nico come out of his shell, and Deen settle down. I loved the idea of "Significant Brothers", and I'm really looking forward to the next books in the series.

I'm voluntarily reviewing a free advance reader copy I received from the author.

Opposites attract in a National Parks setting

Splinter is a book about two men finding love in a national park after one escapes there to leave the limelight behind and the other is sent there to repair his famous rock-star image. Deen and Nico are opposites in many ways, but find common ground in unexpected areas. There is a little bit of grumpy/sunshine feel that I love, helping me find both MCs fun and likable. I grinned through much of the book due to funny dialogue and situations, feeling the narrator did a great job capturing the funny moments. I found Splinter to be sweet, with a lot of heat and dirty talk. There is a little bit of intrigue that seemed kind of odd in the story, but it was low angst. Listening to the book was very enjoyable and I would recommend it for a fun, sort of light read. It made me laugh and eagerly return to listen to more. This is my first book by this author, but I am interested in continuing on with this series

Splinter

This was a very surprising book. I thought it would be a super angsty book. But it was not I enjoyed it a lot. Opposites really do make the best matches! They have to learn to communicate and compromise. This was beautifully done! Loved the narrator!

The Astronaut and the Rockstar

Nico and Seen are both likable characters. I like that they were honest with each other and the story had a great pace. A few times Nico got a little too in his head, but they always came together. Greg was phenomenal as always, I would listen to him narrate anything. Just a great story, low angst, high heat, great pace.

Smoky Love

The first time I read this book I couldn't imagine how it could ever get better but when Ed announced that Greg was doing the narration I knew it had.

This beautiful story of love found between two men so dissimilar on the surface unfold in such a way you want to take it all in at one time.

Nico is astronaut whose time among the stars is cut short by an injury sustained in the process of saving one of his crew members. Deen is a world famous singer whose self destructive behavior finds him in a position so compromised that only a month removed from the ever watchful eyes of an adoring public will save him and it does. Beautifully so.

Finding love in the smoky mountains was not what Deen had sought when he ran but finding it doesn't just save him it saves Nico too.

This is a low angst story written by a master wordsmith and performed by one of the shining stars in the field of narration. I hope that he performs the other books in this amazing series. The Significant Brothers series is simply and honestly a joy to read and will leave your heart lightened and longing for the next book and Splinter is an excellent introduction. Enjoy!

loved

I really loved the book and The narrator did a wonderful job bringing it to life. The emotions are expressed really well and the voices are good for the characters.

I really want to check out the next books in this series. I hope that Mr. Boudreaux continues to narrate this series.
