About this listen

TV reporter Tiel McCoy is driving down Interstate 20 on her way to New Mexico for a well-earned vacation. But her itinerary is rewritten when she hears on the radio that the teenage daughter of a well-known Fort Worth multi-millionaire has been kidnapped - at least, that's the official report. In truth, she is pregnant and has run away with her boyfriend. After calling her editor, Tiel abandons her holiday plans in favor of pursuing the story.

During an innocuous visit to a convenience store in Rojo Flats, Tiel gets up close and personal with the barrel of a gun, two desperate young lovers, and the scoop of a lifetime.

In the electrifying standoff that follows, she learns why the two young runaways fear the wealthy father of one of them even more than the FBI...and why she must defend them against a world bent on their destruction.

Poignant and riveting, Standoff is suspense at its best, as only Sandra Brown can create it.

Good listen

Not as intense as others of Sandra’s books, but as great as any of hers.

Great listen!!!!! Excellent narrator!!!!!

I enjoyed this book from the beginning to the end. The narrator Enid Graham did a phenomenal job narrating the story. My only complaint is that it was too short. Worth a credit.

Kept my interest.

Enjoyable way to pass the time if you don’t expect too much. The negative: it ended too soon.

My main complaint is not knowing what happened to various characters at the end. But the rest is good. This author is a good writer and she does suspense well. Although there is a little bit of romance at the end, don’t read it for romance. Read it as a suspense story with interesting characters. It’s about ½ the length of a regular novel.

The narrator Enid Graham is a new favorite of mine. Her voice is pleasant, calming, comforting, and good.

Genre: suspense with a little romance.

Story was good

Story was good. Narrator mispronounced a few words and ot was hard to distinguish characters as she used basically the same voice for all.

"Hey Doc"

Would you listen to Standoff again? Why?
I have a few times. Sexy doctor

What did you like best about this story?
good old fashion don't give up

What about Enid Graham’s performance did you like?
She brought this short, not the usual, sandra brown story to real life. It was a real shame Enid Graham did not do more of S.B. recordings...she had a way with a story. Another reader, Jenna Stern also was not used as much.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I always do.

Any additional comments?
I have most of S.B. recordings, ALL of Victor Selzack readings...yum. White Hot is not on audible full length, what a great shame.

Captivating read

If you liked movies such as "Lifeboat", or "12 Angry Men", where everything takes place in one location, then you'll enjoy this one.
Standoff is set inside a Convenience Store during a botched robbery.
The characters who find themselves hostages, in some way are stereotypes, but this aids your understanding of what each is liable to do under stress. Ironically you find yourself simpathetic to the cause of the robbers.
The narrator's accents/voices for each character is also well defined and is easy to follow. The story holds you with new revelations appearing at regular intervals. The journey will not disappoint you.

Minus Stars if Possible

This may be the worst audio-book of all time.
The story line is dumb, the characters are stupid and listening to it probably kills brains cells. The narrator is okay but should have checked pronunciations

I've read/listened to books that I disliked so much, I wanted to slam them into a wall. This one makes me feel that way but I also want to burn down the wall, campaign to make sure some folks never get published and, while I'm at it, never get near a computer or typewriter.

Did I tell you I hated this book!?
