Publisher's summary

Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, cloaked by the Force and riding with the hostile Sand People, have returned to the dunes of the desert planet Tatooine in hopes of finding what Luke so desperately seeks: contact with Obi-Wan Kenobi. Luke is hoping the old Jedi Knight's spirit will tell him how to help his love, Callista, regain her lost ability to use the Force. Tormented and haunted, Luke cannot rest until Callista is a Jedi in the fullest sense, for only then will the link between their minds and souls be restored. Yet brewing on Tatooine is news that will shake Luke and Han and threaten everything they value.

The disturbing piece of information is that the evil Hutts, criminal warlords of the galaxy, are building a secret superweapon: a reconstruction of the original Death Star, to be named Darksaber. This planet-crushing power will be in the ruthless hands of Durga the Hutt: a creature without conscience or mercy.

But there is worse news yet: the Empire lives. The beautiful Admiral Daala, still very much alive and more driven than ever to destroy the Jedi, has joined forces with the defeated Pellaeon, former second in command to Grand Admiral Thrawn. Together they are marshaling Imperial forces to wipe out the New Republic.

Now, as Luke, Han, Leia, Chewbacca, Artoo and Threepio regroup to face these threats, they are joined by new Jedi Knights and Callista. Together they must fight on two fronts, outshooting and outsmarting the most formidable enemies in the galaxy. In Dark Saber, the Jedi are heading for the ultimate test of their power: a test in which all the temptations of the dark side beckon. And Luke Skywalker must draw upon his innermost resources to fight for a world in which he can not only live, but dare to love.

A GREAT SHORT STORY

I enjoyed the whole book. Dysny should make a movie out of this trilogy. but dissknee, doesn't like good material, so we as fans suffer.

Coruscant

When you narrate a Star Wars book, you should know how to pronounce the name of one of the single most important planets in the universe. Couldn't focus in the story because they emphasized the second "c".

pronunciation of planets was kinda cringe

it is a pretty short book, but it helped reel in some of the other books I've read such as the entire series of "fate of the jedi". and several other post battle of yavins. however, the narrator's pronounceations of some of the planets strays pretty far from all other narrations I've heard from star wars.

The Return of Admiral Daala

What did you love best about Star Wars?

This book was a continuation of the Callista/Luke love story, as well as a follow-up from Anderson's Jedi Academy trilogy. I liked the Admiral Daala character from that trilogy, so I was glad to see her return. She is just so evil and mean. I also liked that Captain Pelleaon appeared, as he was Thrawn's number 2 in the Heir trilogy and is the Grand Admiral in the Hand Duology. This explains some of the inbetween. The Dark Saber was a clever idea, being that it is the opposite of a "light" saber. This was an enjoyable story, although the part at the end is a bit hokey with how powerful the force is. That is a bit inconsistent with the other stories.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I don't know if I had one favorite. I liked Daala as an evil admiral, but I liked Callista as a strong woman defending her friends. Kip was his wreckless-in-a-good-way self in this story.

I have read other reviews where readers only want the movie characters, but I like it when the expanded universe introduces new characters if it is done well. If keeps the stories fresh and opens the possibilities for more storylines.

Have you listened to any of Anthony Heald’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

As a performance, this was fine. I do think the abridgment cut out more than it should have.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

See my comments from Children of the Jedi.

Any additional comments?

I am glad I listened to this book. If you like Star Wars, you will like this.

abridged

having read this book and enjoyed it, I just do not enjoy abridged books. I still plan on finishing the series even though both are abridged as well. Feels like all the action scenes get cut. otherwise it was fine. same rebels we all know and love
