About this listen

The date is 1970 of the Galactic Era, almost 3,000 from now, and the Republic, created by the human race but not yet dominated by it, finds itself in an all-out war against the Teroni Federation, an alliance of races that resent Man's growing military and economic power. The rebel starship, the Theodore Roosevelt, under the command of Wilson Cole, is preparing to lead Cole's ragtag armada into the Republic, even though he is outnumbered thousands to one.

Cole is convinced that the government has become an arrogant and unfeeling political entity and must be overthrown. The trick is to avoid armed conflict with the vast array of ships, numbering in the millions, in the Republic's Navy. For a time, Cole's forces strike from cover and race off to safety, but he soon sees that is no way to conquer the mightiest political and military machine in the history of the galaxy. He realises that he must reach Deluros VIII, the headquarters world of the Republic (and of the race of Man), in order to have any effect on the government at all - but Deluros VIII is the best-protected world in the Republic.

But a new threat looms on the horizon. Cole, the Valkyrie, David Copperfield, Sharon Blacksmith, Jacovic, and the rest of the crew of the Teddy R face their greatest challenge yet, and the outcome will determine the fate of the entire galaxy.

Nice to revisit Wilson Cole and the crew of the TR. The story is just not a compelling as the previous.

Wilson Returns

I throughly enjoyed the different well thought out conclusion to a very entertaining series. I downloaded them all and worked my way through them back to back. The characters came alive and the scene is set for further adventures, which I hope the writer will entertain us with

Thoughtful approach to conflict management

What made the experience of listening to Starship: Flagship the most enjoyable?

For once the enemy is not evil. Just bad politics (and politicians). The main characters are likeable and interesting, Wilson Cole's actions are always unexpected and clever. And, last but not least, Jonathan Davis' narration is perfect.

Any additional comments?

I wonder IF this is the end of the series.... one can imagine many more adventures to come.

Worthy ending of this series

Very rarely do you fine a saga that makes you want to just keep listening! Great Story, nice plot with Action and Drama. Charles Dickens is spining in his grave lol..That a side I wish there was another book.

Sorry to see it End!!

The entire series is written very well and the narrator made listening to it that much more enjoyable. The author spent an appropriate amount of time when introducing characters and filling in their back stories such that they did not come off as uninteresting two-dimensional characters (with exception for possibly, the Republic characters.) Even the alien types were diverse and novel.

Very Good Military SciFi Genre Series

Well the first few books we real good. but the narrator did not do as good of a job on the voices. and this is one of my favorite ones. i even went back and listen to a bot of the previous books to make sure. the story was pretty good and i will listen to the next one.

Good Not as good as the others

It would be good if the blue print could be used for this planet and it’s current rulers.

Excellent listen

Love the series but the ending is a bit of a letdown. Expected a bit more to wrap it up after reading all these books.

Yawn

Would you try another book from Mike Resnick and/or Jonathan Davis?

yes

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

The ending seemed too by the numbers with no real resolutions and too many old and new strings left untied.

Which character – as performed by Jonathan Davis – was your favorite?

Val David and Christina

Do you think Starship: Flagship needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

YES! too many old and new strings left untied.

Sputters Toward the end
