Story
The index fund was just one innovation fueled by The Vanguard Group founder Jack Bogle's radical idea in 1975 to make investors the actual owners of his new fund company. The end result was powerful: a fund company for the people and by the people. But Bogle's impact and this "great cost migration" reaches well beyond index funds into many other areas, such as active management, ETFs, the advisory world, quantitative investing, ESG, behavioral finance, and even trading platforms.

Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money.

This witty and wonderful book offers contrarian advice that provides the first step on the road to investment success, illustrating how relying on typical "common sense" promoted by Wall Street is destined to leave you poorer. The key to building wealth the low-priced stock wayLow-priced gems, or what author Hilary Kramer calls "breakout stocks" come in all kinds of shapes and sizes but they all have three things in common: (1) they are mostly under $10; (2) they are undervalued; and (3) they have specific catalysts in the near future that put them on the threshold of breaking out to much higher prices. In The Little Book of Big Profits from Small Stocks, small stock expert Hilary Kramer looks for stocks with fifty to two hundred percent upside potential!

Story
Retired neurologist and master investor William J. Bernstein has seen it all throughout his career. Buying investments with borrowed money. Chasing past performance. Overestimating one's own risk tolerance. Listening to cable news. These are just a few of the many mistakes he has witnessed smart, serious investors make, to the peril of their portfolios. Add to these behavioral errors such economic factors as deflation, sudden stock declines, and soaring inflation—and investing can seem like something to be avoided at all costs.

Surprisingly well-written, but bad narrator
When I saw that Jack Bogle had written a book on story of founding Vanguard Group and his career I thought 'great, another wise ass who thinks he can write.' I'll say, though, that he's a surprisingly good writer. His language is simple where it needs to be and intimate where it's allowed. It feels easy to relate to. The narrator doesn't interpret this very well at all, however.
As far as the actual content goes, this book is very informative. Jack Bogle deserves generous respect as a leader and investment manager and there is so much to be learned from him.

Important book!
This is an important book to listen/read. For the audible version I can’t get the audio speed to sound correct - I don’t think it’s supposed to be as slow as it plays as almost double speed seems better. Still worth listening to this book
