About this listen

On a hot July morning on Sweden's idyllic vacation island of Sandhamn, a man takes his dog for a walk and makes a gruesome discovery: a body, tangled in fishing net, has washed ashore.

Police detective Thomas Andreasson is the first to arrive on the scene. Before long, he has identified the deceased as Krister Berggren, a bachelor from the mainland who has been missing for months. All signs point to an accident - until another brutalized corpse is found at the local bed-and-breakfast. But this time it is Berggren's cousin, whom Thomas interviewed in Stockholm just days before.

As the island's residents reel from the news, Thomas turns to his childhood friend, local lawyer Nora Linde. Together, they attempt to unravel the riddles left behind by these two mysterious outsiders - while trying to make sense of the difficult twists their own lives have taken since the shared summer days of their youth.

Story was good, but the performance of it was lacking

What was one of the most memorable moments of Still Waters?

the first time I heard each character being spoken by a different person - and their voices were not pleasant to hear

Would you be willing to try another one of Angela Dawe’s performances?

Perhaps

Was Still Waters worth the listening time?

Again, the story line was interesting

Any additional comments?

I prefer 1 reader rather than multiple readers

Performance was disappointing

Rated PG 15. Several "F" bombs. Fairly clean other than that. I was surprised with the ending.

Pretty good

The story was repetitive. No resolution to the conflict between husband and wife. I don't understand why the argument about the wife taking a better job was even included as part of the story.

Book was mediocre

good mystery and translation. the narrator had a lovely voice, but I didn't enjoy her inflections or Swedish pronunciation

good story, meh narrator

Book is ok. Kind of generic and predictable. Decent characters. A little dull. The most interesting part is probably getting an small idea of daily life in a scandinavian country. The narrator does a nice job when using her normal voice and doing the main characters but goes WAY overboard on some of the secondary characters. It's like she's auditioning for the worst, cheesiest, over the top 60's cartoon. The children's voices in particular were awful.

Meh

Not very exciting. No clues leading up to “who done it.” Still, it was an easy read. Just not one I’d recommend.

Just OK

Loved the story. I wish that the narrator had an accent. It would have brought more character to this book.

Enjoyable!

I love Swedish mysteries, and have at least cruised through Stockholm's archipelago. I won't do a spoiler but merely note that the author pulled out an all too common solution. Narration was excellent.

Kept my attention, but...

The different voices attempting to show different speakers are awful. They spoil what would be a great story. It would be better to do simple variations but the same narrator.

Awful narration

I really like it! The story was good and the narrators clear pronunciation made it easy to follow the story.

Good story and narrator !
