About this listen

She sits against the cold concrete wall with her precious boy lying stretched out next to her, his little arm thrown over her thigh. She puts her hand on his chest to see if he is breathing, feels it gently rise and fall. He is alive.

At two a.m. one icy winter morning, the Jefferson County Police Department pick up the phone to a distressed caller, Ben Parker, reporting that his wife and child are missing.

Arriving at their beautiful family home in Baker Heights, Detective Megan Carpenter can see no sign of a struggle but quickly uncovers some alarming clues about the Parkers’ marriage....

The neighbors say Ben was abusive to his wife, Marlena, and their little boy. And when Megan checks out Ben’s holiday cabin, it’s clear he is having an affair. Ben is hiding dark secrets, but is he capable of harming his own wife and child?
Then the body of a woman is found in a secluded woods and identified as Ben’s girlfriend.

Ben is now the prime suspect, but as Megan digs deeper into his life, crossing paths with his father, Cyrus – the wealthy tycoon at the head of the family and owner of the private Parker Island – the case suddenly becomes even more complex. The truth lies on the closely guarded island, Megan is sure of it.

The case triggers disturbing childhood memories for Megan when she was on the run from her own abusive father. She can’t let anything bad happen to Marlena and her little boy, but she’s running out of time to save them.

Good book!

I forgot how cynical and funny the main character is. Good listen although I would not call it an exciting one. The great mystery for me is this: why is title called “Stillwater Island”?? The island in the book is Parker Island… *scratching head*

Excellent Book

I’m enjoying these books more and more as they progress. It’s been intense from the beginning! Gregg Olsen has that way with his y. I like how the characters are developing more and more within each novel. Megan has begun to open up and let people into her life. She’s trusting other’s, which she never did before. Even her self loathing & hate appears to be lessening. The end was very interesting I’m looking forward to the next book. The narrator also does a great job.

Great book!

I’m a fan of Gregg Olsen’s book and have read several, but this is one of his best. The story was easy to follow and pick up following a few days of not listening. The best part of the book, however, is the humor that Gregg inserts into the story at random moments, creating a lightness from a rather serious moment. I laughed out loud when I heard them!! Read it! You won’t be disappointed!

loved the plot and narrator.

Very well written and narrated. Great series. I would definitely suggest that if you love crime and strong female leads, listen to this book. I think the author is getting better with every book, not that he wasn't a great writer already.

Karen Peakes gives it life

This story was good, but not as fantastic as others in the series. There are lose ends that just went nowhere, but maybe they’ll come together in the next book.
However, Peakes is always amazing and she doesn’t disappoint.
