Amazing New Outlook

Stoic philosophy dates back to ancient practices of people with different cultural and religious values. As we know, we can learn a lot through history. The author writes this book amazingly and really gives good insight on a way of life that is new to us but old to many. Definitely would recommend whether you plan on following this lifestyle or not.

Such an excellent well written guide!

Tobias Entwistle is a brilliant writer. I found the "stoicism for beginners" book to be a real breath of fresh air. This wonderful book has given me lots of tips on how to stop worrying about the little things in life and just to enjoy what I have. After reading this book, I decided to learn more about modern philosophy and how that pertains to my own happiness. Oh and I have also invested in taking a yoga class.

Very interesting

I think this is a decent book if you're into mediation and dealing with anxiety. The narrator's voice is decent listen.

Lots of good info, some bad info, bad reading

This book is definitely filled with good info about stoicism if your a beginner. It gives background info on it's history as well as it's principles and ways to implement it into your life. However, there were some very frustrating parts. For example, when talking about how to deal with difficult people it offered the extreme meaningless and unhelpful tactic of "learn to cope with it". it doesn't give any info on how you might go about doing that or different techniques to try or anything, it just basically said that if your struggling with something or someone, deal with it.... super helpful :/ In that same paragraph it goes on to offer other ways of dealing with difficult people, "....be true and honest with yourself, and never compromise your values." That's great super genetic advise. It feels like the author was like, "I don't actually know much about this point, but it's important to the philosophy so I can't leave it out.... oh! I'll just write a bunch of vague and universally true ideas to cover up that I don't know how to do this." BTW, this is a very unstoic thing to do.
Additionally, whomever is doing the reading is not great. The narrator sounds at times extremely robotic and at other times uses inflections on words and sentences in weird places. It feels like the narrator is at times a computer and at other time perhaps not a native English speaker? There is no accent or anything, just weird intonations and infacis is the wrong part of words which I found very distracting.
Lastly, I just want to reiterate that overall I thought this book did have lots of good info and is definitely worth reading.

Okay Self-help type book but not very Stoic.

An alright but odd book that fails as a quality introduction to Stoicism. It is written in two distinct voices and contains far too much erroneous information. It is as though an amateur self-help author did very minimal research on Stoicism, copied lines and paragraphs from an academic paper, interspersed his own poor writing, and managed get a good deal wrong about Stoicism past and present. I am not saying this book is useless, but tread carefully in considering it to be any kind of authority on Stoicism. Also, the thing where the author begs for reviews at the end of every chapter is really annoying.
