Terrible waste of my time

I am not a Ed Greenwood fan but I generally like his books. This however was his worst book I have read. Narrator did a good job though. The tone of the book suddenly shifted moods from mystery, serious tragedy, playful adventure, attempts at humor, to teasing erotic back and forth like the book had a mental disease or was on drugs. For example while investigating a murder, where multiple other people had just been gruesomely murdered, suddenly the heroin felt it necessary to get all dressed up for a cordial diner with the nobles on the grounds that had nothing to contribute to plot.. I also didn't like all the unexplained magic that didn't seem to have any boundaries. I know this was a fantasy novel but there wasn't a shred of, "I could see that happening." in the book.
