About this listen

Joey Shannon, an alcoholic whose life has been going nowhere for 20 years, returns to his hometown for the funeral of his father. As he leaves town, he gets a mysterious second chance to relive the night in 1975 when his life began its downward spiral: to both literally and figuratively take the road that he didn't originally take. On this road he is supremely tested by conflict with his successful and charismatic older brother P.J., by conflict between his cynicism and his lost faith, and by conflict between the ultimate good and evil.©1995 Dean Koontz (P)2013 Brilliance Audio, all rights reserved. Attention Grabbing

Couldn't wait to hear the next chapter. Would recommend without being asked about what I read last.

Dean Koontz, need I say more

Dean Koontz has a formula, and it works. He also has many books using the same formula, and I need to take big breaks between his books these day. This maybe because I have read so many of his books, and enjoyed most of them. The similarities, however, dictate the gaps I need between them.
A quick paced book that keeps you listening and hooked. The plot is as mystical as always, and a pinch of salt or two is always required.
Worth a daily deal,as I got it, but many better Dean Koontz books if you are thinking of spending a credit.

cool story, but I did not like it

I feel like there were parts that were predictable. I enjoyed the book but felt like there was something missing.

NOT MY GENRE

I am guessing this is probably a very good book, it just wasn't my genre. The story seemed to ramble a bit and was odd. I didn't enjoy it at all. I wouldn't recommend spending a credit on it.

What happened to the whole story?!

What did you like best about Strange Highways? What did you like least?

The story is not really fresh - is has been told by others and many times. It felt a little like Odd Thomas - same Koontz style. The biggest disappointment by far was it just "ended"; when the narrator said "we hope you have enjoyed this story" my reaction was: wait, what? Did I miss something? Nope that was the end.

Has Strange Highways turned you off from other books in this genre?

No - I have read a lot of Koontz (good commute books) - but this one was not worth the effort.

What about Jeff Cummings’s performance did you like?

He did a very good job animating the characters - I liked his style and pace.

Was Strange Highways worth the listening time?

Not really - if the story had been finished it would be have OK.

Any additional comments?

Save your credit - not worth it.

Not Koontz's best

I had a hard time getting into this book. I usually enjoy Koontz a lot but 'Strange Highways" left me behind.

A die hard admirer of all things Koontz may enjoy this offering more than I did...but I found it lackluster and not up to his other work. Oh well, every writer has some winners and some less than sparkling books in their oeuvre.

I'm undecided as to returning this or not..I finished it, and didn't hate it but it was quite disappointing. Perhaps I was expecting all of Koontz to be as good as his "Odd Thomas" series.

Worth your credit? I found it a "Meh"-average book, but you may love it!
