About this listen

Strange Tales of Scotland all deal with a particular aspect of Scottish mysteries.

You'll learn of the ghost that appeared at the wedding of King Alexander II, and of monsters such as the Shellycoat and Water-horse that were thought to inhabit Scotland’s lochs.

Another part deals exclusively with Loch Ness, and the strange happenings at that mysterious body of water. Later, we have a look at the mysterious deaths at the Flannan Islands Lighthouse, and at the strange creatures that were once believed to infest the hills and glens of Scotland, including the terrifying brollachan and the slaugh.

Tales of Mermaids and Fin-men are unearthed, as are terrible stories of Scotland’s caves, including human sacrifice at Moray’s Sculptor’s Cave. The legends of Roslin Chapel and its nearby castle are examined, with the possible connection to the Knights Templar.

Finally, we have a look at the legend of the phantom armies of Scotland; soldiers who refuse to fade away even centuries after their wars have been fought, and their causes faded in history.

Welcome to the Strange Tales of Scotland.

HISTORY OF SCOTLAND

A collection of the myths, folk tales, and legends of Scotland. Some, one is more familiar with Loch Ness, the Roslin Chapel.to name a few. To hear of others was interesting, the haunting stories of the caves. The narration by Nigel Peever was superb. Given ARC audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion

Strange Tales of Scotland

This is a great collection of stories about Scotland and its people. I enjoyed hearing about many of the people and beings of this land. There are many different tales and beliefs touched on in this book. I would love to learn more about many of these and for the stories to go into more depth on the subjects. This is a wonderful way to be introduced to so many tales and get a look into Scotland and its past. I enjoyed the narration of George Ellington. It was nice to have this book narrated in a Scottish accent.
I was given this audiobook for free and have left this review voluntarily.

I've listened to this twice!

Very enjoyable. The author really knows how to tell a great story. The narrator is perfect. I'm sure I'll be listening to this many more times. Lots of Scottish history and lore.

Love the narrator!

If you're into ghosts, monsters, blood and guts, or Scotland in general, then this is a must read. It profiles some of the most haunted places in Scotland, as well as providing a good bit of cryptozoology. And the narrator's sexy Edinburgh accent really makes it all come alive! I cannot recommend this one enough!

Fascinating Scottish stories in a Scottish accent!

This audiobook is a treasure trove of strange Scottish tales ranging from fae folklore to ghost stories to unusual history. On top of that, the narrator’s authentic Edinburgh accent perfectly brings these stories to life. Having an actual Scottish narrator assures me that the difficult place names in Gaelic were pronounced appropriately. The bite-sized stories are arranged according to geography and/or subject matter. Each story ranges from about one to ten minutes long. I don’t think there are any curse words, but some of the bloody historical or monster stories have content that is not appropriate for children under 13 years old. I found the subject matter entrancing, and I plan to buy the ebook version of this so that I know how to spell the names of all these cool places when planning a Scottish trip. I recommend this to all fans of Scotland and Scottish accents.

I love the voice of the narrator George Ellington. His Scottish brogue wraps around me like velvet and is so soothing. His voice is almost as lovely as that of one of my other favorite narrators, Craig Ferguson. Even though this book is full of bloody or creepy tales, George Ellington’s voice would be great to fall asleep to. He gave a wonderful performance, and I hope he narrates more audiobooks in the future. I did have to boost the bass on my speakers in the car so that his musical accent was fully audible over traffic noise.

I requested and received a free audiobook copy from the narrator via AuthorsXP, and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

Will listen again & again

Loved every story and especially appreciated the excellent narration. Can’t wait to visit Scotland again and visit some of the castles and locations storied here. And I plan to re-listen annually (maybe close to Halloween?) because I’m sure more detail will be revealed with each listen. Highly recommend!

Weird plus mysterious equals five stars

When you have a book that you know is a good one the only thing that could ruin it is the narrator. Thank God that wasn’t the case here George Ellington did a wonderful job. I thought his voice was inviting, clear and engaging to listen to. That is why I gave them all five stars across-the-board. Do you stories of weird mysterious strange obscure out the box and stories that make you say OMG this is the book it doesn’t get any better unless you’re reading one of his other books about England, Wales or the strange see. He has the perfect name for the perfect genre of books. I loved it and if you like the weird and mysterious you’ll love it too!
