Publisher's summary

A sexy, fun memoir of a woman in search of love - and money!

"Attractive, professional, well-spoken, well-dressed 35-year-old woman seeks sugar daddy. I live in Darlinghurst on a 17th floor unit with fantastic skyline views to the harbor. The unit also features very discreet and secure undercover guest parking. I am looking for exclusivity so will (theoretically) be available to you 24 x 7. I am single and don't have any children. I am also a fabulous cook and can provide gourmet meals should you require them. I am a qualified psychologist so I make an excellent listener, and I have a great love of conversation. I have also worked for many years in public relations so am a clever, charming companion in just about any situation. I love sex. I will require a generous weekly allowance in return for all of the above."

Holly Hill (pseudonym) gave up her job at the behest of her wealthy boyfriend - and then found herself dumped and penniless. After spending six weeks in bed pining for her lost love, she was encouraged by a friend to be "open-minded" about her career choices - and ended up placing an online ad for a sugar daddy. She received an almost overwhelming response from all sorts of men, but most of them were married men whose wives had lost interest in sex. As Holly interviewed the men and settled on a candidate, she decided to record what happened next. Those almost-daily observations became a journal documenting Holly's extraordinary experiences - not just the men she meets, but the things she finds out about marriages, in particular, and what men need from them.

Sugarbabe is her real-life account of the emails, meetings, employment of and interactions with the applicants for the role, and the five men she eventually chooses (not all at the same time!). It is by turns funny, enlightening, challenging, and thought-provoking.

Editorial reviews

After an affair with a wealthy married man ends, the author of this attention-grabbing memoir finds herself with no income and pricey tastes. Her solution is to become a "sugarbabe", a girlfriend for hire to wealthy "sugardaddies".

In Sugarbabe, Holly Hill details her experiences from handling 10,000 queries to her initial ad to dating a series of married men. A former psychoanalyst, Hill brings her professional insight into her experiences with infidelity and male sexuality.

Narrator Nicole Vilencia is both sardonic and sultry in an unabridged performance of this juicy and absorbing tale.

If you could read junk food, this would be it.

Sugarbabe is an intriguing story about a professional woman who goes broke and makes a concious decision to be a high end prostitute. Listening was something like watching a train wreck-I winced the whole way through but couldn't stop listening. The author accidentally discovers that she makes a great mistress and decides she may as well capitalize on her talents. The only thing that makes the book worthwhile is the the fascinating and diverse cast of characters that she takes on as her "customers". Listening felt like indulging a guilty pleasure and ultimately left me unsatisfied-junk food in a book. This book will not make you a better person for reading it. I did appreciate that the narrator was American even though the author was Australian, as those narrations can be more difficult to listen to (unless you are Australian). I wasn't so thrilled with her pornographic descriptions of her sexual adventures which were gratuitous in some cases and robbed the story of any integrity it could have had. I also found the narration to be too syrupy-which fits well with the name of the book, but does not make it easy to listen to.
Overall, I would say this is a good listen if you happen to be interested in the idea of being a high paid prostitute or if you have absolutely nothing else to do. Otherwise, it is just extra, empty calories.

bad start but great finish

deciding to listen to such a book. started off with a raspy smokers voice which was kinda hard to follow. but I'm glad it wasn't exactly the person that wrote the book. so I listen and some how it became much easier to listen too.... very entertaining I enjoy the insiders version

Far better than I thought it would be

Before good audio book. Well written with good narration. I thought it would be some lame story about some teen trying to get her tuition paid but was pleasantly surprised to find it was an older gal with a college degree just trying to make ends meet. Her descriptions of her liaisons were better than some romance novels.

I enjoyed this book. Holly shares so much about her adventures and it’s something to make you think about maintaining relationships. Narrator was good & easy to listen too.

A honest guilty pleasure

As somone who dabbled in being a sugar baby in my younger years I really enjoyed the honest portrayal of the men she meets. I’m glad they didn’t over fantasize and make it look easy to do. Definitely a guilty pleasure type of book and fun to listen to if you have ever been interested in sugar babies or are a retired sugar baby looking to go down memory lane.
My only complaint is the narrator, she has a lovely voice but not how I would imagine a sultry Australian would sound.

Engaging with some hot sex scenes

Holly’s memoir brought up a lot of questions about cheating, monogamy, and the history of a “kept woman” aka sugar dating. One step shy from prostitution, Hill attempts to normalize infidelity for money while attempting to be a heroine thinking she’d save marriages by shagging married men in exchange for rent funds. While the moral objections are high, the story was engaging and entertaining.

The thing that annoyed my the most is that Holly is Australian, but the narrator had an American accent. I’d much rather hear the Aussie slang in the proper dialect.

Regardless, Miss Hill was courageous to print this story and for that I applaud you. Hope you found your true love, lady.
