About this listen

#1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts enchants listeners with this time-traveling romance about one man torn between his own time and the woman he loves in the past.

Stranded in the present, time traveler Caleb Hornblower's biggest problem isn't returning to the twenty-third century - but falling head over heels for the beguiling Liberty Stone, who shows him a love more powerful than time itself. Though Caleb knows he belongs in the future, how can he leave the past, and Liberty, behind?

I have a project to read/listen to books that I purchased some time ago and haven't yet. There are a lot! This weekend I read and listened to a shorter novel by Nora Roberts titled Gabriel's Angel. I liked it.

Luke Daniels does a decent job with the narrating. This is the first time I listened to any books that he narrated. In the beginning, I was a little iffy but by the end of the book, his voice grew on me.

Gabriel's Angel is a study of two people hurting because of a loss and a need to hide. Gabriel Bradley is a successful painter, in pain because of a death. The death is so heavy on his heart that he can't find inspiration to paint. He escapes to a cabin in the Colorado mountains about an hour from people.

Laura Malone is on the run. Her abusive husband died in a car with his mistress. When Laura discovers that she is pregnant, her wealthy in-laws tell her that they are going to take her child. Her fear starts her running to Colorado, where she almost crashes into Gabe during a snowstorm.

I like the instant connection and the way this couple helps each other deal with the pain of their past. As Laura shares her story and her present struggle, Gabe needs to help her. The more they share their pain, Gabe finds his muse and begins to paint again. There are so many beautiful scenes with Laura and Gabe, Laura and the Bradley's, and Gabe and the baby. There are hurdles that they both have to work out. Their journey isn't an easy one as they find that love can help them both find the footing to go forward.

I'll start with this book is from the 1980s when readers didn't find fault as much as today. I'm from that era not a person who reads a book and picks a character apart. I can see where some, mostly younger, readers will need to do a hand wave or two. Those hand waves don't take away from the story for me. For me, the journey is engaging and an enjoyable read. I love the characters. At times the tension made me nervous, angry or wanting more. There are also times that I want to see a little depth, especially with Gabe's art agent. Also, the ending isn't what I expect from Nora Roberts; I feel like a little more at the end or an epilogue would make the story better. I can see how Robert's changed. Regardless, Gabriel's Angel is a good story. I will check for a sale of the audio and listen again in the future.

I like this book from years ago

What a love story. If you like romance novels you'll love this one. Each thinks the other is crazy and truth is they were a "match".

Great book

I’ve always been a huge fan of time travel stories, but this one had romance, humor, and MORE! I couldn’t wait to get in the car each day. I HIGHLY recommend.

Time travel plus romance equals WOW

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Start over with a different premise of time travel. Not close to the wonderful Time Traveler's Wife. Don't even want to go to it's possible follow-up.

What could Nora Roberts have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Don't make the characters so limited in dimension.

Have you listened to any of Luke Daniels’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Don't really know, but her performance was not the problem, she did a good job for what story she had to deal with since it was not that interesting of a plot line.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

NO

Poor Imitation

a beautiful love story with more vivid love scenes than I expected but done ok. I'm not a fan of fantasy but didn't want to discard. narrator did an excellent job.

way out there but well told

There is such a wide scope of Nora Robrts' books. The premise sounded promising but there could have been so much more interesting meat to the story. I wish the publisher would label "ROMANCE" on the novels that are primarily fluff. And "SUSPENCE"or ADVENTURE on the others.

ok but Disappointing
