About this listen

Blessed (or cursed) with an ability to understand animals, the Lass has always been an oddball. And when an isbjorn (polar bear) seeks her out, and promises that her family will become rich if only the Lass will accompany him to his castle, she doesn't hesitate. But the bear is not what he seems, nor is his castle, which is made of ice and inhabited by a silent staff of servants. Only a grueling journey on the backs of the four winds will reveal the truth: the bear is really a prince who's been enchanted by a troll queen, and the Lass must come up with a way to free him before he's forced to marry a troll princess.©2008 Jessica Day George (P)2009 Audible, Inc. I really enjoyed this story when I was younger, and it was a joy to come back to all these years later, however I had a really hard time enjoying it with the voices it was read in. I just couldn’t take some of the characters seriously and ended up preferring just reading it instead of listening. I love the old fashioned fairytale style it was written in but the voices made it seem too cheesy.

A tradicional fairy tale

This story was more of a traditional fairy tale than what I was expecting (hoping for). The narrator was dull and didn't add to the story. It felt like I was being read a bedtime story by my sister. I was hoping for a lot more.

Fairytale

I love this book and was very excited to find it in audiobook form. There were a couple of mistakes in word tenses but overall it was very well done.

Lover it

Good, though I never really gave my heart away to this audio book, where I've given my heart to so many similar books. It just lacked strong personality-- and the ending was a women studies 101 nightmare; I know the ending probably came straight from the fairy tale and was softened by some side comments but it still made my inner feminist cringe.

Not what I hoped

I love absolutely everything about the story from the characters to the rich plot and bucktail style also love the audio performance hope to read this with my class this year.

It kept my interest and I would have given 5 stars had it had a more satisfying end. Lass and her prince actually got married the servants that had served her all even the supposed dead ones coming alive, free and becoming human again, and going back to families, the name given to the girl having power to kill the evil tolls, and bring back life, the mother being ashamed of how she treated her wonderful, brave and kind hearted daughter, and when lasses Morher heard the praise of the queen ( mother of prince Ashland and how she loved her new daughter in-law and her gift of speaking to animals she changed her tune and saw their blessings in it and felt blessed to be the mother of such a girl, it would have been a 5 star book the prince in the the girls bed was a bit off too.
