About this listen

It's not easy for a young gay artist like Jordan Carson to grow up in Jefferson, Wisconsin, where all anyone seems to care about in middle school and high school are the sports teams. But Jordan was lucky. He met Owen Nelson in the second grade, and they've been BFFs ever since. Owen is a big, beautiful blond and their school's champion wrestler. No one messes with Owen, or with anyone close to him, and he bucks popular opinion by keeping Jordan as his wingman even after Jordan comes out at school.

Their friendship survives, but Jordan's worst enemy may be himself: he can't seem to help the fact that he is head-over-heels in love with a hopeless case - his straight friend, Owen. Owen won't let anything take Jordan's friendship away, but he never counted on Jordan running off to find a life of his own. Owen will have to face the nature of their relationship if he's to win Jordan back.

Short, sweet, and wonderful. A very adorable story that isn't afraid to live in the real world, nor give you the happiest possible ending. The narration was perfect and kept me in it the whole time. It's a book that'll stay with me a good long while in the best way.

A real, relatable read

This is a story that any gay guy can relate to on many different levels. it's great to hear a story which brings back such deep warm feelings. You never want the story to end and it easily could become a series.

The narrator was perfect for the role. My only complaint was the lack of changing voices between characters. That's no reason to write this story off. It is well worth your time.

Loved this story. Not as much as Blame It On The Mistletoe but it's a close second. I highly recommend.

Great YA story

Geeky gay guy falls for his straight jock best friend, who turns out to be secretly gay and gradually accepts that truth, and then falls into bed and then supergay love with the geeky gay friend. Ok? This tale was well written, though. Short and sweet, not overwrought, no eye-rolling melodrama or out of the blue character quirks, and a relatively realistic happy ending. This is a good story for a closeted young jock who feels helpless and hopeless about reconciling negative stereotypes and his masculine self-image. Or, a young twink who fantasizes about being taken by the macho school hero with a heart of gold!

Perfectly Predictable

Superhero had such a perfect ending, I cried through the whole epilogue. This was a wonderful short story about the bond between two best friends, wrestling, unrequited love, coming out, bullying and how you should never make assumptions (never judge a book by its cover). The banter between Owen and Jordan was very clever. I would happily read more books with main characters like them.

5 stars for best friends to lovers

If you could sum up Superhero in three words, what would they be?

Charming and adorable.

What other book might you compare Superhero to and why?

Rainbow High, and not just for the obvious high school affiliation, but for the coming of age story told so well in both.

Any additional comments?

This is my first audio book with Tristan Wright as narrator and he is spectacular! I will be looking (and hoping) for him as narrator in all my future audiobooks.

loved this book

I live in Wisconsin and went to the UW. Granted, I'm not of the generation portrayed in this story and it is a work of fiction, but I'm not sure this could happen even today. It's getting better, but acceptance of LGBTQ students outside of the larger cities in this state is pretty rare. I felt there should have been at least a little bit more push back from peer groups to give it more verisimilitude. That said, it was a truly sweet story of love and acceptance. It made me wish this was what it is like to come out in high school today. Hopefully it will be true"r" someday.

Very sweet coming of age story

Great friends ones gay the other supports him. They have grown up together just two buds,
Jordan an artist and Owen a wrestler. When Jordan decides to come out at school Owen continues to support him.
