About this listen

For Max Duncan, the word Sundown means one thing … run.

Corpses infected with a mysterious, incurable virus are roaming free throughout the United States, feasting upon the living. The Duncan family compound in Montana is Max’s only hope for survival - but to get there, she has to flee from South Carolina and survive crossing several states with her daughter Jack in tow.

Max has a choice to make. Does she risk her own life, and her daughter’s, to find the man she’s always loved?

Griffin Wells was Max’s high school sweetheart, and he has no idea that Jack is his child. Max still has feelings for him, and the apocalypse has suddenly brought those emotions to the surface, strong as they ever were.

But zombies are the least of their worries. The government knows more about the infected than it’s willing to let on, and the military has plans for Max’s family you’ll never see coming.

Enjoyed it but

The story kept me engaged but only because I know I want to get to book 3. It was a little - out there.

Great character development

There are not a lot of books that are this successful at developing characters and making them relatable. My only complaint so far…how slow does a car have to be, to not be able to out accelerate and outrun a crappy military humvee?I love this series and am currently on book 4.

Survive review

While not the best zombie apocalypse story I've read it is a very good series. I love stories written by women because to me women give their character so much more emotion, unlike the dry stiffer characters by Male counterparts. I found myself really liking or disliking every character. A lot of writers seemed to be limited by the apocalypse theme but Konstantin shows her range and skill as a writer with strong and believable characters and good plot development. The story did get a bit predictable at times and the zombie fight scenes were drab at times but this story is made by the great characters. I just wonder if all women share Courtney Konstantin's seemingly negative view of men and how men under value women in general. I can sympathize with women's view on this topic after the things I've personally witnessed and fought against often to my own detriment. Great, well written story.

Enjoyed it, but not overly excited

This series is very highly recommended by a lot of apoc readers and I guess I was a little underwhelmed because of that. But it is a good book, I have enjoyed listening to it (read book 1) and will continue with the series.

Pretty Good-but sentence structure needs help

I really enjoy this series and like the story. However, many sentences have repeated words and none of the dialogue contains contractions. For example “she took my good hand with her tiny hand.” “I will go in the store” or “We cannot go in there.” I don’t know why, but it’s driving me nuts- word choice is important in a story and the way a character talks tells a lot about them. I could see maybe Max not using contractions- she’s very ordered, proper, grew up in a strange household. But Griffin, would definitely use them, along with the other characters. These are good stories, but need an editor to go through them- they have great potential.

Love the series and am excited for the next book.

Am excited to see where the story goes infection wise and family wise. Also enjoy the military side as well. Survivor conflict is always interesting.

Great Series

Max was raised by a Prepper father, taught to survive by any means necessary. Traveling from South Carolina to her family compound in Montana, Max makes a slight detour to find the father of her daughter and bring him along. Griffin is unaware that he is a father. These two were a couple in their high school days and when Griffin chose to join the Army, Max's father had other ideas about this relationship continuing. Trying to come to terms with all the personal baggage while also trying to survive the zombie uprising along with being chase by a shady government Max and Griffin, along with their daughter Jack go through hell and high water to reach her siblings Alex and Rafe. One thing I really enjoyed about this series is Book 1 is about Alex, Book Two is about Max, Book Three is about Rafe and Book Four has them all together fighting on many fronts. I also enjoyed having strong women as the main characters. So tired of the women being damsels in distress or caged by neanderthals who think a women is only good for one thing, This series is a breath of fresh air.
