Story
On a beautiful summer afternoon in 1998, Dan Stephens, a 22-year-old canoeist, was leading a trip deep into Ontario's Quetico Provincial Park. He stepped into a gap among cedar trees to look for the next portage - and did not return. More than four hours later, Dan awakened from a fall with a lump on his head and stumbled deeper into the woods, confused. Three years later, Jason Rasmussen, a third-year medical student who loved the forest's solitude, walked alone into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness on a crisp fall day.

Story
"Woodcraft" is a quite poetic guide to the wild by Nessmuk. Canoeing had been popularized by Scottish lawyer John MacGregor in the 1860s, but the typical canoe trip of the day employed expert guides and heavy canoes. Nessmuk, who was 1.60 m tall and 47 kg, had a 2.7 m long, 4.8 kg solo canoe. He named it the Sairy Gamp (the name of a Dickens character) and in it he completed a 428 km journey through the central Adirondacks. He was 62 years old and in frail health (tuberculosis and asthma) at the time.

The Knowledge is a brilliantly original guide to the fundamentals of science and how it built our modern world as well as a thought experiment about the very idea of scientific knowledge itself.

While the popular image of the Victorian world is one of stiff formality and old-fashioned values, it was an incredibly transformative time for many people who sought better protections, fairer wages, and greater freedom. And this included an increasingly popular and successful fight for animal welfare. Prior to the 19th century, the mistreatment of animals was rarely questioned, and sports like bullbaiting and dogfighting were common. So, what brought the plight of exploited and suffering animals to the attention of activists, politicians, and the public at large?

Joshua is a great teacher - enjoy this audiobook
I had wondered about listening to a survival audio book, because in some instances you really need to look at illustrations and physically practice what is being taught. Despite the limitations of an audiobook, I really enjoyed listening to the content. Survival is something that needs repetition and I believe listening, reading, and practicing are all important. If this is interesting to you I would recommend that you listen to Joshua's YouTube videos and/or get the actual book. I also like Creek Stewart as a survival instructor, but there were unique skills that I learned from Joshua.
It is easy to get caught up in wanting all the survival gimmicks, but what is most important is learning the basic skills well and keeping your emergency bug out bag light. Joshua does a good job condensing down these skills to what is most important and what are the most important tools and supplies in your emergency kit.

Real deal of a wilderness instructor!!!
I like the logical layout of teaching in this book it follows the same as the author's classes. He didn't wright the book to have a book, he wrote it to teach.

Geared toward beginners but a lot of good info for I know to have done this for a while. A lot I wish I knew when I 1st started. The narrator talks a little too fast in my opinion

I learned a lot about reading maps and compass especially topographical maps. This book is very informative about surviving in an emergency or if in enemy territory.

Good info, but not for visual learners
Good info, but not for visual learners, like me. some long sections describing in detail how to tie knots, set traps, etc., but useless to me without images to reference. Looks like I'm buying the book 👍
