About this listen

Goldy Schulz is thrilled to be catering a holiday breakfast feast for the staff of the Aspen Meadow Library. But little does she know that on the menu, alongside the Great Expectations Grapefruit, Chuzzlewit Cheese Pie, and Bleak House Bars, is a large helping of murder.

While setting up at the library, Goldy spots a woman lurking in the stacks who bears a striking resemblance to Sandee Brisbane - the woman who killed Goldy's ex-husband, the Jerk. But Sandee is supposed to be dead. Or so everyone believes.

Goldy's suspicions mount when the body of Drew Wellington, a former district attorney, is found in a corner of the library with a map worth thousands of dollars stashed in his clothing. She's convinced that Sandee is involved.

But the holiday madness is only just beginning for Goldy. Soon she's drawn into the dangerous, double-crossing world of high-end map dealing. And like the ghost of Christmas past, Sandee keeps making an appearance. Could she be out to prove that revenge is sweet?

Editorial reviews

Barbara Rosenblat proves once again why she is one of the top narrators in the profession. She portrays this funhouse of colorful characters with a personable and, at times, gossipy style. Her well-rounded performance includes pauses, knowing exhalations of exasperation, and perfect timing for the many funny observations and jokes of a stand-up comedian. With her experience and talent, listeners can count on Rosenblat to bring an edge to this mystery that elevates the material into a very enjoyable read.

Critic reviews

"Davidson is at the top of her form....Readers will happily sink their teeth into Goldy's latest case and come away hungry for more." ( Publishers Weekly)

Just okay

I've listened to all the books in this series, and found them all entertaining, except this one. It was just a little too unbelievable that a 30 something woman could endure every event that "Goldy" did in this story and not end up in the hospital. Instead, she was out running errands, driving on snow slicked highways, chasing bad girls, catering all her events and of course, solving the crime in the end. More superhero than average woman. And the relationships/friendships she has with the other characters....also a bit unbelievable. There's one story left to listen to, and I'll do it, just to catch up on the series, but if it's like this one, I'll stop right there.

As far as the narration, Barbara Roseblatt to me is Goldy Shultz. I do enjoy the way she reads.

Sweet plot, sweeter reading & sweetest characters

The plot is terrific--so good I kept sliding my progress bar back to re-listen, the characters are rich in detail, and the narrating is perfect. I love to be made to laugh in the midst of a mystery, and I was laughing out loud in several places, often AT Goldy, but in a nice way. This is one of my favorite in the series.

A definite sweet re-read...

Barbara Rosenblat is BACK!!!! And Amazing!!!!

If you could sum up Sweet Revenge in three words, what would they be?

My favorite Goldie reader is BACK!!! Thank you audible for bringing back the real sound of Goldie!!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Sweet Revenge?

Tom's husky voice asking Goldie if she needed glasses, in regards to Sandee.

Have you listened to any of Barbara Rosenblat’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

YES!!! SHE'S BACK. I can't remember the reader from the last book that was replaced but she read the Goldie character like a soap opera character. I hated the old reader's mens voices. Tom sounded horrible and I couldn't love Marla the way that I do when Barbara Rosenblat reads her. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for bringing Barbara Rosenblat back!!!!!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I would be the same line they used in a newspaper article about Goldie in one of the books.
Something like: "Tough cookie Goldie the Caterer, solves murder in a small Colorado Mountain Town, while being a single mom and cooking gourmet food for the towns elite."

Any additional comments?

I've really grown to love this characters the way the Barbara Rosenblat reads them. Thank you again for bringing back the real Goldie Schultz.

About Normal

This was another in the same old same old style of Mott-Davidson. There were too many people that she was best friends with and it was very predictable. This book dragged on for what seemed like days.

I really believe that if they would use another voice the book would not have been so hard to listen too.

Disappointed

Had I read the book I would have kept my image of the charaters. I wish I would have. The reader was too old sounding, too tired. The story was okay - not as good as previous books in the series.
