About this listen

Get a personal chef, they said. It’ll be fun, they said.

And then Thierry shows up and Pietro realizes his mistake. Because he knows Thierry. A little too well.

Thierry is the man who told his ex to leave him.

Thierry is the man who punched Pietro and ran.

Thierry...is his ex-boyfriend’s best friend.

But Pietro also knows the man needs a job. An injury destroyed his former career, and Pietro is nothing if not a bleeding heart. Besides, he doesn’t have time to search for a new chef, not with the World Series looming and his team ready to go all the way.

Life gets more complicated, though, when he and Thierry cross a line one night after a lot of wine and several bad jokes. And while hooking up is one thing, Pietro knows the last thing in the world he needs is for his heart to get involved.

Too bad it tends to make decisions without him.

Switch-Hitter is the first book in a fictional MLB series featuring a lonely baseball player with a chip on his shoulder and hope in his heart, a team ready to win no matter what it takes, a grumpy French chef who will defend escargot to the death, and a few bottles of dry red wine leading to the sweetest happily ever after. Each book in the Hit and Run series stands alone, contains no cheating, and has a happily ever after.

Such a lovely story

The audiobook of this one was just so good. I loved how much the narrator gave life to the characters and how great they sounded. This audiobook was just lovely and it really worked for me.

I just really enjoyed this one. This book was exactly what I wanted to read at this moment in my life and it just really worked for me. Everything about this book was just clicked for me and really worked for me. Reading this book was just a very good time and I really appreciated every seconds I spent reading the book. This one is the case of reading the right book at the right time and damn did it work for me at this time.

If I had one thing to say it’s just that i’m not the biggest fan of stories involving a lot of side characters and I felt like those plot points overshadowed the romance a little, I just would have prefered to see more cute couple moments between the main characters instead.

EM knocked it out of the park.

EM Lindsey did it again, they totally knocked it out of the park(hahaha get it). Pietro and Thierry were lovely. I wanted to just love on Thierry after all he’d been through. I loved the way Sarah mothered him and Chris became his friend instead of just his physical therapist. Pietro was so funny. Loud and all over the place at times, but also so kind and there for the people that are important to him.
John Solo did a fire job narrating this story. I love his voice. His gruff, French-accented voice for Thierry was superb. The way he portrayed Pietro was so fun, I loved his inflections he chose for him. Give this book a listen! It is so worth it!

Fantastic new sports romance!

I absolutely love a good sports romance and E.M. Lindsey has created a truly amazing one with their new Hit and Run series! Thierry and Pietro are both a little bit broken but have a whole lot of love to give to the right person. Unfortunately, they have not had great luck in finding the right person before they found their lives connected again after a drama filled incident that changed both their lives. I hated seeing both men struggle so much to find their way toward the future they want but the struggle is what made the ending so sweet! Both Thierry and Pietro grow so much as people in this book and it is wonderful to see them embracing the changes they have made to lead a more positive life without whitewashing the events of their past. I loved the theme throughout the story that while people don't really become "better people," those who want to make changes to their life and make better choices are able to live a different way than they have in the past. I loved all the side characters in this book and hope some of them will be getting their own HEA in future books! John Solo is one of my favorite narrators because he is able to bring such life to the stories he narrates. His voice is so soothing to listen to for 8+ hours while keeping you engaged to the story and the characters. I have yet to listen to a John Solo book and be disappointed and I hope he will continue to narrate the rest of the books in the series once they are released. Fantastic new series with really diverse and complex characters and great storylines! Can't wait for the next book in the series!

Good listen

I really like this story. Pietro and Thierry both have their struggles in life. I love how they came together. They supported each other and help each other through the tough times. I definitely recommend this book.

Well thought out

I read along while listening to the audible, narrated by John Solo. He did a great job. I loved the accents and the distinction between the main characters voices were very clear.
I really enjoyed this story. It was intricately woven into a well thought out believable plot. It kept me interested all the way through, in fact I couldn’t put it down towards the end I just needed to finish it.
A lot of times I can tell exactly what’s going to happen next in a story but with the Switch-Hitter I didn’t know where it was taking me. I really liked that.

Outstanding!! Phenomenal!!

The story starts with Thierry punching Pietro then flashes forward a year. Pietro is a mess, he struggles with ADHD badly. Thierry has had a life changing accident and is now struggling to make a new life for himself. Pietro plays major league baseball and eats horribly; Thierry has become a personal chef. Both men were deeply complex characters. Both are imperfect and flawed but are actually perfect for one another. There were some really fantastic secondary characters in the story, I' love a story about James! John Solo did a great job with the narration, well done. Overall and outstanding story!

Wonderful!

I absolutely fell in love with these men! I think that this trope is one of the best that EM Lindsey writes. This has it all… jealousy, an evil ex, hate to like to love, injury, long term disability, thrills of winning, sweet kisses and more. Cake for dinner? Oh yes!

So Good!

It took me a little bit to get into it, but once I did, I loved it. Pietro and Thierry have a history. So when Pietro first realizes that his new personal chef candidate is Thierry he rejects the idea. But Pietro has a soft heart and decides to give Thierry a chance. Thierry is lucky to be alive after he is shot while protecting Herve, his now former best friend and Pietro’s toxic ex. But he is a fighter and has come a long way in his recovery. Despite their issues, Pietro and Thierry grow and explore their strong attraction. I really liked the secondary characters. I hope James will be next in line for book 2. John Solo did a great job with the narration.

Totally surprised!

This was an incredibly sweet story about two men coping with major life changes and healing broken hearts! I also loved the combo of a Professional baseball player and body guard turned personal chef.

Pietro had recently received a diagnosis of ADHD. He’d been plagued with many different difficulties while growing up and it affected him deeply. It caused him to struggle with low self esteem and feeling of unworthiness. He also was coping with the breakup of his relationship due to his partner cheating on him.

Thierry had a major life upheaval when he was shot and became a paraplegic. He was a security guard for Pietro’s ex, and was shot while on duty. He had undergone many surgeries and was in physical therapy and working in his mobility. He was also coping with the fallout from the shooting in terms of not only losing his friendship with Herve but also unemployment.

This definitely started as an enemies to lovers because Thierry had literally knocked out Pietro’s front teeth in a misguided attempt to honor his friendship with Herve. There was so much animosity between the two. But once they succumbed to their desires abs attraction to each other is was incredibly sweet.

These two men offered each other something neither had before and that was unconditional support. They truly wanted the best for each other. They were also able to bond over their extreme dislike of Herve.

One thing to note is how well the author focused on Thierry’s spinal injury and all that it encompassed. He didn’t just wake up one day from surgery and was magically healed. There were some very uncomfortable moments for him both physically and sexually. It was handle so delicately and respectfully.

a slow burn enemies to lovers sports romance

An enemies to lovers romance between a baseball star and his super toxic ex-boyfriend's former bodyguard. This is a story of two flawed men falling deeply in love. Once Pietro and Thierry are reacquainted with each other, things are understandably very awkward at first and there is lingering anger and guilt. It takes time and patience and a lot of communication, but the two men slowly work through their issues that were solely created by Herve' the ex. There are times when both of them don't come off as entirely likeable but I think it merely adds to the realism of the entire situation and merely helps to leave them both very well rounded. Whilst I loooooove John Solo a French accent is not an accent I would say he has perfected which made this a bit of an awkward listen at times for me.
