About this listen
Maggie De Luca recently relocated to New York. Working as a medical detective in her new position, she is called in to investigate a mysterious death. The red rings on the lungs were alarming enough, but then she hears the word plague.
Now, the clock is ticking. And the death count is rising.
Maggie tries to trace the origin of the disease, but is always one step behind. Then she starts seeing things...the victims...reaching out from the grave. But ghosts aren’t real, right?
Meanwhile...
Microbiologist Michael Harbinger believes he can make a vaccine to stop the disease--if he can find the elusive plant in the Amazon. Soon, with the help of his friend J.D. Stallings, they set out on a perilous adventure to track the plant down. But the local tribes are at war, and they realize they may never escape.
Back in New York:
Maggie finds patient zero, but then she starts experiencing symptoms...
Had she gotten too close?
Birgitte Märgen, author of LIE LIKE THE DEVIL, invites you to read this psychological thriller novel that will have you on the edge of your seat with so many twists and turns, you will not see them coming.

Story
It’s the kind of case that chills Caitlyn to the bone. Missing person. College student. Beloved daughter of a world leader in biotechnology. She was last seen on a spring break cruise. No witnesses. No motives. Just one possible lead - reports of a stranger who may have lured the young archeology major off the ship and into the jungles of Guatemala. When Caitlyn follows her hunch into the jungle - with the FBI’s Jake Carver by her side - the trail takes a surprising turn into the very heart of darkness.

Story is not bad
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
I really enjoyed the story, as good as the movie “Contagion.” Although I prefer a human narrator, the AI narration was adequate.
Since 2019 we have intimate knowledge of how horrible a pandemic can be. It’s a good reminder to be vigilant about washing our hands and showing consideration for others by wearing a mask if it is possible that we are sick. So many people have the false impression that Covid is no longer a serious illness, that it is no different than a mild cold. But to individuals with compromised immune systems it can still cause serious long term health problems and even death. So how important it is to quarantine until you test negative.
I am going to read the only other book that is available on Audible from this author.
Great contagion story.

I was disappointed to find an AI narrator. The lack of emotion in the reading just takes too much away from the story for me
