About this listen

The RATS were the first sign. If only they would listen.

Maggie De Luca was recently moved to New York. Working as a medical detective in her new position, she is called in to investigate a mysterious death. The red rings on the lungs were alarming enough, but then she hears the word plague.

Now, the clock is ticking. And the death count is rising.

Maggie tries to trace the origin of the disease, but is always one step behind. Then she starts seeing things...the victims...reaching out from the grave. But ghosts aren’t real, right?

Meanwhile...

Microbiologist Michael Harbinger believes he can make a vaccine to stop the disease--if he can find the elusive plant in the Amazon. Soon, with the help of his friend J.D. Stallings, they set out on a perilous adventure to track the plant down. But the local tribes are at war, and they realize they may never escape.

Back in New York:

Maggie finds patient zero, but then she starts experiencing symptoms...

Had she gotten too close?

Would have been better without the AI narration

Will not listen to another audible that uses AI. Mispronunciation of so many words and no inflections. Story was interesting but AI ruined it for me.

Story is not bad

AI has come a long way, BUT it still comes up very short in expression of feelings and emotions. The wrong inflection on words is evident, but not the worst I’ve heard. 😊

Good story, didn't care for the AI narrator

Terrific medical thriller, and I thought the detail in tracing this plague was outstanding, adding some real edge of your seat suspense!
I was disappointed to find an AI narrator. The lack of emotion in the reading just takes too much away from the story for me

The horrible narration by AI

A really bad book made worse by horrible AI narration. Save your time and don't bother. Soak your feet, rearanger sock drawer, clean out the refrigerator, or dig a hole for no reason. all of these things will be more enjoyable than listening to this book.
