After no body was found, everyone assumed that Mike had drowned in a tragic accident, his body eaten by alligators. Publisher's summary
NATIONAL BESTSELLER
The gripping true story of one woman’s battle to expose and shut down a criminal online porn empire.
Pornhub was the 10th most visited site on the Internet, often praised as a progressive champion of women. Then one day, an activist discovered a secret they had been keeping from the world for over a decade: it was infested with child sexual abuse and rape videos.
Now for the first time, anti-trafficking expert and mother of two Laila Mickelwait tells the story of her battle against Pornhub’s billionaire executives and the credit card companies who helped them monetize the abuse of countless victims—some as young as three years old. Listeners will follow her from her first horrifying discovery of criminal content on Pornhub to closed-door meetings with credit card executives, White House and Justice Department senior officials, a powerful hedge-fund manager and more. Through insider accounts from Pornhub moderators and executives, you’ll meet the world’s first online porn tycoon, AKA “the Zuckerberg of porn,” along with Pornhub’s top brass (known internally as “The Bro Club”) who operate in secrecy.
The culmination of years of activism, Takedown is the true, never before told story of how Mickelwait mobilized a movement of two million people and together they accomplished "the biggest takedown of content in Internet history." (Financial Times)

I could not put this book down.”—Gary Haugen, CEO and founder of International Justice Mission, author of Locust Effect
“Takedown is the thrilling and inspirational tale of Laila Mickelwait’s relentless leadership of the campaign against the dark empire of Pornhub. This story of triumph is a must-read for anyone who wants to make a difference.”—Gerald Posner, attorney, Pulitzer finalist, and author of Case Closed and God’s Bankers

Story
March 31, 1985. Two white patrol officers in search of a gang member followed a pickup truck carrying seven young Black men up a dirt driveway in the Encanto neighborhood of San Diego. Minutes later, gunshots rang out, and the truck's driver, Sagon Penn, fled the scene in an officer's patrol car. Penn was an idealist who believed in the power of Buddhist chants to bring about the oneness of humanity. The two police officers were rising stars in one of the most progressive police departments in the country, yet one that had suffered more officers killed in the line of duty than any other.

Story
The fair sex. We've often heard this cliched expression being used to refer to women. Although it has become increasingly outdated, the mindset still exists that women are the gentle and nurturing sex. When it comes to murder, that notion gets turned on its head. And this isn't a recent phenomenon; we can find plenty of female killers going back in history. In fact, some of the world's most notorious serial killers have been women. These female killers give their male counterparts a run for their money and deserve to be counted among the most famous serial killers.

Story
The Mexican War brought vast new territories to the United States, which precipitated a growing crisis over slavery. The new territories seemed unsuitable for the type of agriculture that depended on slave labor, but they lay south of the line where slavery was permitted by the 1820 Missouri Compromise. The subject of expanding slavery to the new territories became a flash point between North and South.

That is, until December 16, 2000, when Denise’s husband Mike disappeared while duck hunting on Lake Seminole. What Pornography Knows offers a new history of pornography based on forgotten bawdy fiction of the eighteenth century, its nineteenth-century republication, and its appearance in 1960s paperbacks. Through close textual study, Lubey shows how these texts were edited across time to become what we think pornography is a genre focused primarily on sex. Originally, they were far more variable, joining speculative philosophy and feminist theory to sexual description.

Story
In the past, one of the most cherished American values was the truth. When people dealt with dilemmas, issues, opinions, and decisions, their first question was “What is the truth in this situation?” Now people are concerned only with what they think, feel, and want. We have lost touch with the importance of truth in our lives. This reality has resulted in a society in abject turmoil and confusion.

Captivating story, excellent narrative
Fascinating retelling of one person’s impact in holding a major porn website accountable for illegal content. I was familiar with the news stories about the situation but the book gives a much richer insight to the arduous process. A worthwhile read for anyone interested in human trafficking.

Eye-opening
If you haven’t been aware of trafficking before you will definitely be shocked to read this book. And even though you know about it this book will make your jaw drop.
The author has gone through so much research and been in contact with so many people it’s unbelievable the hard work she has put into this book and the course she is fighting for.
Even though I’ve been a true crime reader for many years and have heard a lot of absolutely horrific cases I have to admit the information in this book was very shocking.
It’s a very well written piece however it will leave you uncomfortable every now and then. From time to time I felt nauseous and very uncomfortable.
If you’re faint of heart this book will not be for you.
