About this listen

The Tao Te Ching has a long and complex textual history. Known versions and commentaries date back two millennia, including ancient bamboo, silk, and paper manuscripts discovered in the 20th century.

The Tao Te Ching is a fundamental text for both philosophical and religious Taoism. The name Tao Teo Ching translates into English as The Book of the Way and of Virtue.

Just what you'd expect

This is a reading of the classic work without deviation so far as I know. The narration was done well and professionally. I have never read or been exposed to this philosophy, but I quickly started to recognize the described behaviors among my experiences with Asian cultures, shedding light on aspects I perceived as peculiarities that stood in stark contrast to my North American experience.

A non-self help book that helps the self

There are several books that I read every other year or so, some once a year, and this is one of those books. I usually read through the Art of War, Leadership Secrets of Atilla, the Book of Five Rings, Zen and the Art of Archery, and the Prince. How does this book fit in there? Each of those books work on preparing yourself and how to handle your environment. This book does the same thing, only in different ways, and it will impact you in manners you never expected, but this is not a book one can simply sit down and listen to or read once. It takes multiple sittings to fully absorb its meanings. I do not fully get it, and I have read this book for about the last 35 years. So, get ready to have your mind blown.

The narration by Kent is nice, it is not boring and holds your attention, unlike other narrators who might handle this material. His voice is pleasant, and he reads at a very pleasant pace. Clearly, He knows hw to impart wisdom well. Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. Getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.

the narrator was running

as a classic it's a good book a very good one but I had a problem with it the problem is that the narrator read the information and the book too fast even for me and I'm learning and listening and hearing books every single day and every single moment I can and this book was read too fast I felt like he ran and read this book

A classic for a reason.

With timeless wisdom this Audio Book can give you a small glimpse into a wonderful
perspective on how you can live your life.

It is a classic because man does not change only the toys he plays with.

The Narrator gives a good performance with the material.

Narrated way too fast

I was really looking forward to listening to this audiobook and learning about the way of Tao. I think the information would have been interesting and maybe even enlightening to me, but the narration was too fast to allow me to absorb or contemplate the topics presented.

This is one of the rare times when I have to say the narration ruined the audiobook for me.

Difficult listen

Last year I read the paper version of Tao Te Ching and enjoyed it.
Although the practice of Tao is far from my bed, as in an unknown philosophy, I enjoyed reading and learning from this classic.

The narrator did a good job professionally, but for this audiobook I did not get the sense he understood anything he was saying himself. The manner in which the rhymes were read resembled nursery rhymes. He rushed through the book so fast and in such a superficial way I was left wondering what had actually been said.
Too bad.

Impossible!!!

The first problem was being jarred by the reader's mispronunciation of the word 'Tao.'
The next problem was the reader read so quickly it was impossible to make sense of the script.
The next problem seems to be that the writer did not understand the Tao on anything but the most superficial level.
I found it unbearable to listen to and turned it off after less than 5 minutes.
