About this listen

Set amid the beauty and decadence of the Ottoman Empire, Lady Emily's latest adventure is full of intrigue, treachery, and romance.

Looking forward to the joys of connubial bliss, newlyweds Lady Emily and Colin Hargreaves, diplomats of the British Empire, set out toward Turkey for an exotic honeymoon. But on their first night in the city, a harem girl is found murdered, strangled in the courtyard of the Sultan's lavish Topkapi Palace. Sir Richard St. Clare, an Englishman who works at the embassy in Constantinople, is present and recognizes the girl as his own daughter who was kidnapped twenty years earlier. Emily and Colin promise the heartbroken father that they'll find her killer, but as the investigation gains speed, they find that appearance can be deceiving - especially within the confines of the seraglio.

As a woman, Emily is given access to the forbidden world of the harem and quickly discovers that its mysterious, sheltered walls offer no protection from a ruthless murderer. As the number of victims grows, Emily must rely on her own sharp wits in a heart-stopping finale if she is to stop a killer bend on exacting vengeance no matter how many innocent lives he leaves in his wake.

I love this series!

I enjoyed this book as I have all in the series I have listened to. I felt I knew the characters as I listened to my first one. I find the reader to be excellent and enjoy the pace of the stories. I wish I could have read them in order but find it easy to adjust to the times in their lives. Highly recommend.

This mystery is set in Turkey during the last of the Ottoman Empire. Our heroine is on her honeymoon but a complex mystery must be solved! Quite an intricate one!

Please Don't Use This Narrator Again

I'm sorry Justine Eyre was chosen. This may be a good book, but from the beginning I could hardly listen to the Narrator. Please find another profession.

I wish all Tasha Alexander books were read by Tasha Amato! No there's a wonderful reader! All her "voices" sound genuine and real.

Thank Justine Eyre!

This installment, and the next, with Justine Eyre reading made me so happy. I am so loving the escape of this series, the characters, and on the narration (but for book 3, just power through, you can do it). Excited to listen to the next.

Entertaining Story

I enjoy the Lady Emily series and I forgot when I ordered this one on audible that I had listened to it before when I first started the series but I had forgotten the ending so I listening again. Ms. Alexander has improved; I had forgotten how irritating Lady Emily was at the beginning of the series. There were times I wanted to slap her to quit whining and going on and on but thankfully as the series increased, Lady Emily's character did also. The ending was nicely finished but I felt it was a little rush to tidy up the loose ends which really needed some story details before just slapping a band aid on it and it was finished.

Thank you for bringing back Justine

The stories are always wonderful!! And I will listen anyway. But thank you for bringing back Justine Eyre. It's very difficult to go from one narrator to another because I already have a character in my head and a different voice and style make it a whole different character. Excellent mystery... great plot twists... and such enjoyable characters.

Enjoyed

The first and second in the series were great. The third in the series, I couldn’t make through to the 3rd chapter, the narrator was horrid. I am glad they have the same narrator back. Enjoyed this book so much.

Extraordany addition to this seriesI

This book is the best of the four and I am looking forward to additions to the series. In this case the plot. Exciting and the characters worth caring about. I must congratulate the producers on the selection of the performer that read the book. Bravo and thank you.

I couldn’t return it fast enough

I enjoyed the first books but this one is ridiculous. I am finding it hard to believe that it was written by the same person who produced And Only to Deceive and A Poison Season. Also the narrator sounds like she is five years old.
