About this listen

Society dictates that a governess should be modest, quiet, and keep to herself.

She should never contradict her employer.

And, above all, she must not attract the attention of any male in the household.

But Michael Severson doesn't see Isabel Halloran as a governess - he sees her as a woman, one whose lush curves cannot be hidden behind a dowdy gown...and whose efforts at hiding her sparkling intelligence are betrayed by her wit.

Years before, Michael had left Regency England, falsely accused of a crime. Now he is back, dedicated to seeking retribution - but not to taking a bride. But when his scandalous actions compromise Isabel's reputation, he does the unthinkable and offers her his hand - a marriage in name only.

But although his bride's passions are untried, Isabel's sensuality clearly matches his own. And with each day, and night, that passes, Michael becomes determined that every kiss, every caress, will be made with one goal: to seduce his proper wife into tender submission.

Contains mature themes.

This a great example of historical romance at its best! The characters are well developed & storyline keeps your attention with an unexpected surprise twist at the end. EXCELLENT narrative also.

I completed the story with a lot of eyerolls because it is just not so well written. Good start but it did not reach the end

Not so good

Cathy Maxwell weaves intrigue, murder and adventure into most of her stories. This book is no exception. Great Story. Anne Flosnik is great but sometimes I can not distinguish her words, i.e. brother and father.

Another Maxwell Captivating Adventure

This was a good interesting listen and I enjoyed it from beginning to end. I found the H to be a little slow to see and accept some of the trouble he faced and this caused him to be too trusting in people who meant him harm. (He states that he can't think or see things as quickly as others, so I sympathized with what he faced). The h of the story was brilliant and quick to see the underlying plot of what the H faced. I was happy he found her and that they were able to start a relationship. He truly needed this type of lady in his life.

The conclusion was slightly disappointing because of the underlying reason for the angst of the story. I just expected a bigger plot twist than what I got, but jealousy can be a huge motivator. By the end, I liked the two leads, but I liked the h so much better. Enjoyed this one enough to continue to the next book.

It was interesting.
