About this listen

The rogue's temptation would be her undoing....

Gemma Haverford knows exactly who she will marry: James Randolph, the man she's had a secret understanding with for the last 11 years. With every letter written between them while he's been off at sea, their love has grown. Now they will be reunited with his return to England.

There's just one problem. The man whose words she'd fallen in love with isn't James at all....

Jasper Holland, a gentleman rogue of the first order, is trapped. Talked into a scheme by his best friend, he pretended to be James for 11 years as he wrote to Gemma, even though he'd promised James he'd break it off. But now with his return to England, his secret will come out - and he'll lose the one woman he can't live without.

What began as a game of words, now becomes a game of hearts, and Jasper will pay any price to call Gemma his.

Captivating!

My first book on Audible. I did have a little trouble getting into it. It was so much different hearing it read aloud rather than reading it myself, and I found the narrator's voice a little distracting. I think it would have made a big difference hearing men voice the men in the book. Other than that, the storyline was great. I really enjoyed Jaspur and Gemma as a couple. I just don't know how Gemma kept overlooking how much better Jaspur was than James. So glad Gemma finally comes to that realization in the end. I give Tempted By A Rogue 3.5 stars.

Good story be sure to read.

Where does Tempted by a Rogue rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It is a good audiobook, but not the best I've heard -- however, that has nothing to do with the quality of the audio format/performers, etc. - it is just that there are other stories I like better. I REALLY like the J. D. Robb In Death series as well as the Cynsters and would rank those above this one -- especially since this is a novella.

What does Carolyn Morris bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Carolyn Morris did an excellent job. She delivered a smooth performance where she easily went from character to character.

Any additional comments?

I don't care in the least for this format of writing a review. I would much rather be able to share what I wish to share about the book and not be forced into a format by audible.com. Therefore, this will be my first and last review on this website.

A fun, sexy, and sweet story of a love meant to be

What made the experience of listening to Tempted by a Rogue the most enjoyable?

Carolyn Morris did an excellent job with her narration. Her inflections and voice aspects during reading made it really easy to feel the emotion of the story. I felt like this helps the listener become even more emotionally attached to the characters.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked that the story was quick paced but not at the expense of character development. While the meat of the story takes place over only a couple of days, the background of the characters and the development of the joining of those characters is well written. Lauren Smith does a great job of writing each character to help the reader/listener understand that character, what drives their actions and emotions, and how they came to be the couple they develop into throughout the story.

Any additional comments?

If you're looking for a sexy, fun story that is a quick listen, this is perfect. It's easy to become invested in Gemma and Jasper's story, thanks to the writing of Lauren Smith and the reading of Carolyn Morris.

Incredibly sweet story!!

I adored this book from start to finish. I am a big fan of this author and the books she writes. I couldn't have asked for a better narration of this book in particular and I can't wait to listen to any future books that are being narrated. If you enjoy historical romances then you will enjoy this and if you this you don't just try this book you will be hooked start to finish!!! I will be recommending this to all my friends and my family as well.

Short and Sweet. Outstanding Narration!

This was a really good little novella. I enjoyed it. I really liked Jasper, he was pretty awesome. He was handsome, strong, and sweet. He really fell hard for Gemma. I liked Gemma too. She was a strong female heroine, not a whiny simpering one. The chemistry between these two was great, it felt real and genuine. There was a couple of nicely written hot and steamy sexual scenes.

The story line and plot was good. The story flowed very well and it was easy to follow along. There was not very much dialogue. I did miss that for sure, but what little dialogue there was, was good.

As for the narration. It was fantastic. I am a huge fan of Carolyn Morris. She does such a great job. The men sound like men, the hero sounded sexy. All the characters have their own distinct voice. She reads with emotion as called for in the story. Her reading voice is wonderful and she is a pleasure to listen to. I would be happy if she narrated all Historical Romance books! She is perfect for them.

Sweet story, well read

I listened to this on Audiobook courtesy of Caroline Morris the narrator after I mentioned how much I liked her reading of a Tessa Dare novel. I listen to quite a lot of historical romance and it was lovely to have a fresh, young sounding voice. She did a great job differentiating the different characters also.

The story itself was very enjoyable. Who doesn't love a case of mistaken identity romance. It was a novella so we don't get a great deal of depth but it was a fun read to while away a long road trip.

Gemma has been writing to James for eleven years and in those days it was tantamount to a declaration. What was a teenage crush with a very young girl has matured into something more. The only problem is that James asked his friend Jasper to give her the flick but Jasper kept writing, year after year.

This was a sweet story, with some warmish bits. I liked the premise and the story was easy and fun.

No one writes a "Rogue" like Lauren Smith!

Poor Gemma Haverford! For eleven years, Gemma waited for her betrothed, James, who didn't even love her! She had fallen in love with the man she corresponded with for all those years. All those years and all those letters!! Unbeknownst to James or Gemma, it was James' friend Jasper who had begun writing to Gemma when James abandoned her during the first year away.

Listen to how Lauren, and a party full of interesting characters, puts all things to right for Gemma.

Ms. Morris did a wonderful narration of this story.

I enjoyed this book and recommend it for your listening pleasure!

Weak Characters

The behavior logic of each character is so flawed, it's painful to listen to, not even real or believably drama or story climax. Someone who "loves" heroine so much that he betrays, ruins, talks about her sexual responses with someone else, takes advantage when she's crying and after he hurt her, lies to her, panders like a weakling pouting chikd to a buddy, and refuses to say his honorable intentions to heroine at all until he randomly climbs in her window dishonorably...THAT'S the hero?! Don't get me started on the behavior logic of the Heroine. The characters and story idea had great potential, but the behavior logic was so discordant with the endless character thought musings that none of the characters - Hero, Heroine, or supporting cast - were believable or worthy of our sympathy or contempt. And they could have been, if this amazing author had taken the time to use her normally stellar skills and magic on this story.
